I have driven all over the UK for the past 25 years and up to last year was doing 40k a year. (I'm IAM passed twice and RoSPA Gold.) I now only commute along to Fareham from West End and the standard of driving on the M27 in the mornings actually scares me at times! So much so I am going to change my route and go out through Botley & Wickham to avoid it.

Give me a fast moving M1, M4 or M25 any day. At least most of the drivers on these routes know what the heck they are doing!

I agree, I drive my wife to the station each morning, travelling from whiteley to Parkway, absolute morons at most times, it depresses me each day before I do the run as I know what it will be like. Middle lane morons, idiots doing 50 in the outside lane.........

+2. Bunch of no good numpties.

But then. The road designers going the other way to Portsmouth, who - who tell me - decided to have the new(ish) bit over Fareham have the 2 outside lanes merge? Surely, having the 2 'slower' lanes merging in turn would be more sensible, no?

Saves Mr. Audi/BMW hugeing it up from junction 10 on the outside trying to squeeze every other lesser mortal doing 70 or so.

I don't really travel much during peak times but out of them it's not too bad, I find the M25 much worse especially for lane discipline, Get so annoyed everytime I drive along that road.

Those extra lanes were a waste of tarmac purely because either an extra lane comes on at a junction, or L1 splits. In each case L1 is often empty while L2, 3 and 4 are used as normal.

I can't say the M27 is worse driven than others, though for some reason MLMs abound whewn driving west from J2 to J1, and everyone seems to be in the middle lane when L2 and 3 merge as it becomes the A31. Idiots.

The worst thing I find about the M27 is getting to it, the A31 is appalling, nobody will relinquish their right to be in the outside lane no matter how slow they are going.

I'm thankful that my commute from Jnc 7 M27 to Jnc 5 M3 each day is done just after 6am, it's not so bad then, well, apart from the kamikaze bloody van drivers, and it's always the same companies too!

Yeah this drives me mad, seems to be at its worst on a Sunday afternoon; I can't help but cruise on past using the inside lane sometimes! hehe

It's bad, but I've experienced worse on the M25.
On one part with 5 lanes (joining not far after Gatwick clockwise) only the outside two lanes were being used!! mad

I sailed up the inside with the cruise on at "some" mph. But fk me the rest of the mongoloids on there were a waste of space!

I find the A31 worse than the M27, outside lane is often chocablock and the inside lane can be empty for at least half a mile. So I cruise up the inside lane whilst everyone else is travelling at 50 to 60 mph.

I do a lot of travelling between the south coast and the midlands and I agree the M27 is a nightmare (to the extent that I commute 15 miles each way on a pushbike just to avoid it!). Why is that nearly every car travelling east from J11 first thing in the morning is surprised to see sun in their eyes and puts their brakes on every time we have a clear morning?
Fcensoredg morons!!

However, it pales into insignificance next to the M40.
You'd swear it only had one lane- the outside one.
Never seen a road like it. Drives me insane every time I use it. Thank God I don't live anywhere near it!

I must admit that my reaction to getting to the M27 from the A31 is "thank goodness", not "oh no".

Bloody hell! I was expecting one or two to be in agreement not the whole of the South Coast!

I think the main issue is that a high percentage of users only ever drive on the M27 and only travel a short distance. Maybe 1 or 2 junctions on their commute so they are not really experienced motorway users.

Looking forward to not getting wound up in the mornings and using the lanes instead.

Hey, I drive a Transit on the the M27 some times; I like to think my lane discipline makes me one of the good guys though.
