After renting for 2 years in Lower Parkstone trying to find a plot of land I am slowly coming to the conclusion that I may have to buy a house and put self-build on the back burner for a few years as I'm getting tired of feeling unsettled.

Going to see a nice new place in Glencoe Road and wondered if anyone had any comments on the area? I've always been over Poole way so no real experience.

Thanks!

Hi Gary, some nice places around that way and Queens Park side of the Wessex Way, had some friends that lived just round the corner from Glencoe. You will need to make sure you don't plan on going out or getting home any time the footy is on round there though as the traffic can be pretty horrific before and after a game. Another thing to note is when going to view it I would avoid going down Harewood avenue in the R8 as its got some pretty nasty speed bumps down half of it past the schools.

Chris.

Nice area but a lot of traffic.

As said home games are a nightmare, also school times, as there are two schools very near.

Interesting. Just came back from the viewing and thought it seemed lovely and quiet smile

I'm used to sirens as I'm not a million miles from Poole hospital right now.

I know about the footy on a Saturday.... I tend not to go out on Saturdays until late as my "out shopping" day is Friday as I only work 4 days a week from home.

My mum lives in Ensbury Park, I live in the New Forest so travel down Castle Lane etc quite a bit. I personally couldn't be doing with all those traffic lights, roundabouts and stop start traffic the whole time! My clutch is far too heavy!

As a matter of interest... which bits of the NF would you suggest are nice to live in? I hear so many differing stories, mainly from people who do not live there!

Umm, bit of a difficult one. Depends on what you want I suppose. I love living near the forest, being able to go out on the bikes after work, having the boat in the marina in Lymington etc, but on the other hand, I don’t live in a particularly nice area (New Milton) and there are a lot of chavs in the area – in the literal meaning of the word.

Lymington is nice to visit (I work there) but I wouldn’t want to live here personally. Too many tourists in the summer, the road in and out of Lyndhurst is a nightmare, and I don’t find the people in the area particularly friendly in my experience. A bit snooty I think would be the polite way of putting it! I find a lot of people rude or at least impolite. I used to live in Southbourne and I found it a really nice area. Mainly elder people I suppose but it had a nice feel to it, people seemed more friendly and chatty, but I didn’t like the drive into work each day.

I would like to live in Sway. It has more of a community feel to it. Nice houses, quite a small local village, little local baker and butcher shop etc. That’s more how I see country living personally. Less tourists too! There are some nice areas around Everton and Hordle down some small single lane roads which you wouldn’t know existed. There are some very nice houses around there tucked away.

Burley is nice, but again gets packed full of tourists in the summer. There’s not much there though, just a few pubs and a few touristy shops, but it’s a pretty area. Quite close to Ringwood for shops and things. There are some very large houses in Burley Street.

Best thing is to take a drive round the area for the day and see what you think.

Cheers! I'm actually very familiar with Lymington and Lyndhurst just not the more rural parts. I was considering Boldre until someone said it's full of in-breads biggrin

I've done tons of driving around - Ashley Heath, Ringwood, Chandlers Ford, Sway ... although not enough probably but it is good to get a locals view.

Ashley Heath is nice, my dad has just bought a nice house near Saint Leonards. Two huge garages to easily house 9 cars! smile

Boldre is really nice, not sure on the people but there's a really good pub there - the Red Lion and the staff are nice.

I got rid of it about 2 months ago due to garage situation. But - I loved it and am seriously considering a Spyder because I liked it so much. Great fun and effortless to live with!

See, interesting, the person I spoke to said Boldre = weird. However, I'm convinced that they do not really know the area so think they may have an aversion to the New Forest!

I nearly moved there a few years back. As long as you are happy with some noise from the A31 (unless you are further back) it seemed really nice place. Easy for communications to the M27 and easy into Bournemouth and Poole. I'm still considering that area.

East Boldre, that's country living! I like the area, but then I like being in the middle of the countryside, away from tourists!
