I am driving up to Brands tomorrow (approx. 5/6pm) and was thinking of heading up the A3 instead of the M3, but when coming back from Dunsfold last Saturday morning I queued for about 15/20 minutes through the road works

Anyone know what the traffic heading up the A3 at that time on a Saturday is usually like

Could you not get the A272 in to the route somehow, so across and up so to speak?

Sounds to me like you need to drive it up instead of trailing it. Much more fun.

Good luck though.

Not sure where you are - but why not A31, A3, M25 etc...

A mate suggested this route but wasn't sure if it would save any time against the M3 route

Have a look at http://hindhead.mouchel.com/bbatm/a3/hindhead.jsp before you set out. Or enroute if you have a suitable phone.

It takes about the same time for me - but probably a bit slower if you are towing a trailer. There are lots of roundabouts etc.

My parents live over that way (East of Gatwick) and I always go cross country, A27>A272>A24>A272>M23.
Quite a short route mileage wise (compared to the M25) and a more pleasant drive. smile

When's that due for completion... it looked pretty close to be finished last time I drove past.

Sometime in 2012 then.. as we are bound to have long delays when winter arrives!
