Looking for a nice, old fashioned scrappy. The sort that let you wander in with a toolbox. Silverlake in Southampton doesn't quite cut it, however they do seem to have everything possible available. Any suggestions?

I always use Silverlake myself. Failing that Trents in the Wallisdown area of Bournemouth which is similar to Silverlake or there used to be a pretty old fashioned one around Jacks Bush on the road from Stockbridge to Salisbury.

I remember that place, Richard Noons wasn't it? They had no problem with you climbing 3 cars high to remove parts, that was almost 20 years ago though.

It's only about 15 miles from Winchester if you go through Stockbridge.

I'm not sure scrappy's will be allowed to let you do that any more, Nanny Blair/Brown would have stopped all that. Even my local one takes the bits off for you.

Noon's - that was it! Not been there in about 5 years mind. It was a proper old school scrappy - health & safety nowhere to be seen. Great fun.

Dase Engineering Ltd in Bishops Waltham was quite an old fashioned scrapyard, in a random location for one though.
It's in an housing estate inside an old quarry.
Not sure if you can walk around it still, not been there for a few years now.
If not, G&R Harris Ltd in Emsworth is good, but abit of a trek.

This is the only one that I know of that still lets you wander around and remove the parts yourself, and it's all the better for it. They have a large yard, with no stacking, and cars arranged by country (i.e. all Jap cars in one area, all Italian in another, etc.).

Bring back memories! Not been there for donkey's years. Good to know they have stayed true to the proper scrap yard form smile
