Can anyone recommend some good pubs/hotels with restaurants in the general Chichester/Portsmouth area please? I drive out from London on sunny days down to the coast and could do with having some pub options - decent beer, gastropubby type meals and of course spacious level car parking!!

Sunday lunch at The Portsmouth Hilton, bottom of the A3 from £9.95 I defy you to get a better meal any where else for the price. Lovely surroundings, excellent car park, ticks all the boxes, however you must book, and lunch is only served 12.30 - 2pm. Enjoy

Royal Oak or The Ship, both at Langstone, lovely surroundings.

And I notice today the Ship is doing 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £20 Sun-Thurs.

I'll never forget how pissed off the landlord was when we filled the car park with probably 40 or more exotics for the first Pie on the Beach meet hehe

It's actually a public car park so there was nothing he could do smile

I have always preferred the Oak, but went there on Saturday night for some dinner and it has losts its appeal a bit. The place has never been the same since Kiwi Chris the landlord was moved on. Not so many locals anymore.

Yes very true, the food is as good IMO but you are right, 'something' is missing. Still prefer it over The Ship though, while it's good it's more of a pub that does food whereas the Oak was a notch up.
