Hello,

Come summer, I may buy a new car. Still not 100% yet as I might do something else with the money, but a toy is very tempting right now! A quick search on Pistonheads has brought up some very cool machinery. I emailed them over to my girlfriend and she's added her comments to each car. (Ignore the colour comments!) I had just picked a few examples to show her the cars so features and spec specific to those cars should be ignored. I'm just interested in your thoughts on the models in general.

I have no real requirements. It will be a second car for fun. Most important is the speed/power and the noise!!! It's a second car so it needs to make me feel good and excited. I'm not sure whether to get a small 2 seater convertible or a big V8 monster! The convertible will probably be more fun, and be more of a fun weekend car (which is what it should be), but everytime I log onto AudiSRS I get tempted by the V6 and V8 twin turbos, and the noise at the rolling road day at MRC was awesome!!! If I had a large car, we'd get away with a small everyday car (like a Fiat 500 sort of thing), if I went for a 2 seater, we'd have to get a big car for everyday stuff and for the bikes etc.

My girlfriend has rated the ones she likes most at the top....

Pros = LOVE IT Cons = I probably won’t get insured on it
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2341946.htm

Pros = colour, the tinned windows, the interior and the lights. Cons = it’s quite big, I imagine expensive the run i.e. can’t take to Cornwall
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2203174.htm

Pros = something different, new and exciting, small and nippy to take to Cornwall, nice colour, convertible Cons = none
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2256824.htm

Pros = something different, new and exciting, small and nippy to take to Cornwall. Cons = GAY COLOUR
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2020661.htm

Pros = comfortable, nice ride, smart, lots of buttons to play with. Cons = doesn’t look very exciting, colour.
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2504406.htm & http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2221080.htm

Pros = convertible, smart, nippy enough to take to Cornwall. Pros = common, obvious, poser car, colour gets dirty quickly and looks rubbish unless you clean it once a week.

Pros = convertible, smart, nippy enough to take to Cornwall. Pros = common, obvious, poser car, colour a bit boring. Would be better in red or gun grey or white.
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2279561.htm

Pros = you like it, nice colour, smart Cons = boring, obvious, common, no where to store the hard roof top
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2420296.htm

Pros = you like it Cons = boring, obvious, common, boring colour, not unique, everyone has got one
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2197266.htm & http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2485925.htm

Pros = fast, nice colour, nice interior. Cons = doesn’t look much different to your old car, too expensive to take to Cornwall
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2365993.htm

Pros = fast. Cons = boring grey colour, nasty wooden interior too expensive to take to Cornwall.
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2424032.htm

Pros = fast, interior. Cons = serious GAY COLOUR YUCK!!!!! Yellow is for 2 seater convertibles not big estate cars, too expensive to take to Cornwall.
http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2439920.htm

This is just hypothetical at the moment. As I say, it will be summer when (if) I do get one, but I'm keen to know what you think of the cars. Budget would be up to £16,000 really. I suppose I could go over if I used finance, but I'd rather buy cash.

The concern about the insurance on the S2000 has bemused me, probably the cheapest to insure out of all of the cars on the list I would have thought?

If you want proper fun with a hint of economy and a small amount of practicality it's got to be the Exige or a faster Elise. Saying that on a run the Z4M is fairly economical and really rather quick, that would be where I'd consider putting my money, especially as I can't get in an Elise without looking like I was having some kind of fit.

I decided to post in GG too and it's gone TVR mad!

http://pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&amp...

I'm not worries by fuel economy. We'd rarely be taking the sports car down to Cornwall anyway. We'd have a second car for that and for running into work each day. This will be for weekend blasts.

Has to be that Tuscan. The jaunt to Cornwall in a TVR is epic. Short squirts between the roundabouts from Ringwood to Hontion then the cruise from then on in. Can't think of a car I'd rather do it in.

Don't be scared of the engines etc. You'll get a S6 with the engine work done on your budget.

I do have an uncontrollable Tuscan itch at the moment!

hehe Welcome to Pistonheads! I think the Z4M is a pretty safe bet. Fairly rare, quite rapid, wind in your hair fun and everybody initially thinks it's a standard hairdresser mobile. A good friend went from a 3200GT wallet destroyer to one and he adores it, it's got no soul, but it doesn't just stop in Reading for the fun of it.

Got a garage full of them hehe Well it is a large double garage.

Could get a Tuscan in there too if I could shift the furniture wink

Happy to have a chat about TVR ownership if you feel the urge.

No, sadly. Sunday's are just about the only day of the week I'm not up before the sun so will give it a miss. Anytime you want a chat/ride, give me a shout I'm sure we can sort something.

I'd want a garage to house a Caterham though. Wouldn't want to leave it outside.

Get a vxr8 you will love it. I did and I do.

But only 20mpg on average long runs you might get 25mpg

Don't forget the vx220!

I've had a few VX220's, great cars but I fancy something different. That's why I'm not that sold on the Exige, very similar.

Can you afford to piss the money away, or would you be looking for something that will retain its value for a few years?
