As you can see on the first picture the door is open, so just to be cheeky I went for a quick chat and a sneaky look inside. Not much inside but the camera system is the absolute dogs.

So is it for speed then? As I though they had to have Hi vis on them?

Saw this last weekend at the top of staxton hill. (was bike racing at plovers mount so presume that's why, haven't seen it before or since and go on that road daily). Has a camera on top of a stem sticking of the roof facing forward, and The standard pointing out of window types on the back. Nothing at all to show it's a speed camera van from front and just 2 small speed camera logos on back doors.

Looks like an ANPR van to me.

Im faily sure this is ANPR. The fact there were traffic units in the area further back is this up - they are there to react to any hits.

Speed camera vans can only be used in certain signposted areas, and need to have Hi vis IIRC

Seems you are correct Mr Gemini! I think you are the operator of this van - Get him!

Do they not have to have high vis then? And why does it have the pole mounted camera? And why does it have an entourage of Police cars with it?

This van is to catch you speeding. Work next to the police garage where it is based.

The south yorkshire police have a new weapon in their war against those most evil of villains, the motorist. A black vw transporter minibus type thing, with blacked out windows sides and rear. it was at the top end of leger way earlier today, and his fellow plod stationed at various strategic locations to pull you in, using a silver focus st, a marked up insomnia vxr. While i can appreciate it's 40mph, and near a school, has it never occured to them to police Gliwice way( a dual carriagway with a 30mph speed limit, which virtually nobody does), they could make a small fortune, especially from the spasticated mongtwot who went past me today doing at least 80mph. Hope he loses his licence the pillock, if he hits anyone crossing the road, they'll come down in Newark FFS

Saw one in Colne a few weeks ago with somebody he had stopped. Sneaky little devils these bobbys in their new weapon of choice.

Insert generic comment about having better things to do than catch speeding motorists such as catching rapists/robbers etc.
