What is t like in Richmond and the surrounding areas? Any places to avoid? Rental prices seems exceptional value, at least compared to the South.

Any views or tips greatly appreciated.

Lovely part of the world. You have the army camp and ranges near by so no hassle from rioters You get the added value of an ex PM as your MP.

Are there many drunk army brawls, or is it generally quiet and peaceful?

Very peaceful and a lovely place to live. The army is banned from most areas but I confess it never stopped me hehe

You will not be unhappy living there.

Quiet, peaceful, picturesque. We have friends who live up there, and we're quite jealous of the area! Lovely lovely place!

And as said above, some brilliant driving roads... with barely anyone on them!!! Just watch out for tractors!

Beautiful.

Richmond is a stunning place.

Just make sure the house is about 100ft higher then the river. Its the fastest rising river in Europe apprently, Iv seen it over the top of the bridge at the bottom end of town, (about 60ft!) yikes

Great driving roads nearby, and although there are some rougher areas around, they are very avoidable.

Its notabley cheaper then Kent too!

Very nice area; you'll get to know Darlington well...

What brings you to these parts if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry for lateness in replying, just back from a visit to Tallinn.

My better half has possibly got a job lined up in Richmond, and since I can pretty much do what I do from anywhere, a move would seem likely if the job happens.

The area seems very nice, the only concern would be shopping opportunities for the OH wink

Don't forget the proximity to Croft as well! (most important thing for PHer I would have thought)

Catterick Garrison/Colburn are the main squaddie haunts. In my years on pub crawls around Richmond I never saw any bother (although that was when I was in my late teens when I was still at school, so a few years ago!).
I'd move back home if I could, I was brought up in the Leyburn area but went to secondary school in Richmond. A lovely part of the world and as others have said, some cracking roads!
