I have the (mis)fortune of having to take my 3 month old to Sheffield Childrens Hospital on Thursday - however, I've been told that parking is really restricted there and as we've got to be there at 1030, I don't want to mess about.

I'm coming in from Shorpe so I'll arrive via the Parkway - but is it best to park up out of town and get a bus, if so which? Or better to chance parking at the hospital?

Thanks

JTW

You can park at the Hallamshire and walk round to SCH, it's only a couple of minutes walk. There is VERY limited parking at SCH, we're usually there with GG Jnr once a month and end up parking at the Hallamshire 90% of the time.

Might be worth pulling up at SCH to drop off and then drive round to the Hallamshire to park.

Happy to answer any Qs you have here or via PM.

Thanks - how easy is it to get to Hallamshire then? It's been a while since I frequented Sheffield...

M1, Parkway, inner ring road to the Uni and then pick up Glossop Rd.

I think the hospitals are sign posted from the Parkway.

Or just follow an Ambiwlans!

Its easy to get to the Hallamshire, as it is pretty much next door, 5 minute walk max. As has been said below, come in on the Parkway, and when you get near the end (before it drops down to the big Ponds Forge roundabout) you need to take the fork right. Think the Childrens Hospital might be signposted...you're looking for a big red H that either says Childrens on it, or non emergency.

If you don't fancy parking at the hospital you can use our driveway - its just off the parkway. You'd need to get a taxi after that though or the bus.

Best option is to park at the Hallamshire it's more or less just round the corner.

Often even the hallamshire multi can be full after about 9:30 and the underground spaces are really tight with the concrete columbs meaning you cant open a door!

Childrens parking is dreadful but if you get there early enough 8am ish you will 'normally' get a space.

good luck and hope all goes well.

tram it from nunnery square then, parking around the 'Central Hospitals ' is dire , plus AIUI the residents only parking areas around there have grown dramatically

Im there a lot. if you need to go in again (hopefully you wont) post in here and I may be able to drop you off.

Im at the hallamshire on tuesday and was there yesterday.

If you are driving and risking parking at the hallamshire dont go right to the big roundabout at the end of the parkway.

turn off just before to the right by a large new fancy looking office building(think its blue) just past the police headquarters and bingo place on the left. I think its all signposted from there.

Becareful there will be signs for northern general as well and you dont want to follow those

there are other ways but that is my prefered route. you could go past the station and up the duel carriage way at the back and come out at teh same roundabout near the colledge buildings.

If you don't mind a short walk, you could park at the Rockingham St. Q-Park multistory and walk through the University. I regularly park in there from around 10ish and you're guarenteed a space.

On street parking (pay at meter), I've only managed to get a space there once though.

GG Jnr went to SCH yesterday with Mrs GG, they parked in the Hallamshire multi-storey late morning. If you've got the 2 small people with you I'd suggest dropping off outside SCH and then try parking at SCH followed by Hounsfield Rd, Durham Rd, Northumberland Rd and then if all else fails the Hallamshire.

You can get from SCH down Durham Lane (narrow and cobbled) onto Northumberland Rd and then follow that round onto Palmerston Rd. This then brings you out in front of the Hallamshire and a quick left-right leads you to the multi-storey.

Leave plenty of time, from experience the stress of being at SCH isn't helped by not being able to park. GG Jnr was first there at 4 weeks and he'll probably be going back until he's 16.

Thanks.

I think the plan is going to be something very similar - drop off Mrs JTW and baby, park up at the Hallamshire and walk over with the 4 year old. I'm going to aim to be there at 10, so it'll be interesting herding out the family for 0830 - that's where the most stress will be I think....

We'll be back there in May for a General Anasthetic appt for Baby JTW so this will be a fun (!) learning experience.
