About 30 minutes ago I was enjoying a Marlboro in the garden when something cought my eye.

I looked up and just saw a meteor/meteorite blast straight across the sky east/west over me. Coming from Skipton way and heading towards Harrogate.

I know PHers aren't exactly thick on the ground round my way but I don't suppose anyone else saw it did they?

It was one of the most amazing/beautiful/slightly scary things I've ever seen in my life.

Looked like a tennis ball glowing bright orange with long orange tail. It covered about 10 miles of visible sky in a fraction of a second.

Didn't see it no, but there was another one reported across Britain (and PH) a few days ago smile

Yep, that other one was all over news. This one was really shifting though, not slowly breaking apart like that other one.

I had a terrible nightmare last night where I watched a meteor smash into the earth about a mile from me. Then there was a sonic boom and I remember saying in the nightmare I could not hear anything. It freaked me out.

I have just read that "The frequency of fireball sightings increases by 10-30% during the weeks of the vernal equinox."
