Harewood Hillclimb school today
Discussion
Attended the hillclimb school today with a vague thought of doing some races if I liked it. Very good day out, got loads of runs in and the instruction (complete with video) was good. The track is much narrower and the scenery loads closer when you drive it than you'd think when spectating! The fast guys must have balls of steel.
I don't think I'll actually take the Smart racing, it was a bit too slow to be class competitive but still a lot of fun. From looking at my in-car video I wasn't far from the times set by another Roadster in races last year so I'm pretty pleased with that

There were some fantastic cars there -

Hope you had as much fun as I had when I did it a couple of years ago
Started off in my TVR then after 2 runs got an oil warning light
(turned out just to be a stuck pressure relief valve)and so
finished with another 6 runs in the S Type Jaguar
Well worth trying it out for fun and good for your driving skills as well
Cheers

I lost count of the runs I did in the free-for-all in the afternoon, but I think about 14 or 15 in total. I got 13 runs on my in-car video and that ran out of battery before the end
The format was a briefing to begin with, then split into groups of around 5 per instructor. We then walked the course as a group followed by a run each with the instructor in the car giving guidance. We then did another 4/5 runs with feedback from the instructor at the end of each, he watched from the top. There were apex and turn-in cones out for the morning.
The morning runs were videoed from different corners and during lunch this was played back with a bit more feedback from the head instructor. The afternoon was one more run with the instructor in the passenger seat followed by continuous runs with no cones out. A few people took breaks at this point but I just kept going round until they closed the course!
I thought it was pretty good value although one racer I spoke to thought it was a bit expensive compared to the practice day. For me I felt it was a lot more rewarding than "experience" days I've done as you got decent instruction and mixed with regular racers as well as newbies.
[edited to correct my runs total!]

Is there a form of motorsport you've NOT done in that Jag?
May do that in next year or so as it won't be worth much to sell
It has been one of the best value cars I have ever had - and great fun to boot
Still does nearly 40mpg on a long run (at speed) - not bad for an automatic 2.5L
Cheers
