Recommend me a pub in Grassington
Discussion
I've been over to Grassington a few times and really like the place. My parents, brother and his girlfriend, and my sister are coming to stay with me for the weekend, and seeing as I have a puppy now I thought a walk around Grassington and a pub lunch is on the cards for tomorrow (weather permitting).
So where is good? Great atmosphere and great food is what I'm after

Grassington is great but the pubs are nothing special really and quite 'samey'. The Fountaine Inn at Linton is very close (adjacent village) in fact you could walk there from Grassington. It's a great little spot with a maypole green in front of it and a very pretty stream complete with a ford, bridge and swans. Lovely looking pub with decent food and a nice atmosphere. A short drive through to Burnsall (or again you can walk there from Grassington, along the river bank) and The Red Lion is cool and in very pleasant surroundings. The Craven Arms in Appletreewick (next village to Burnsall, about a mile and a half walk) is one of my favourite proper old school country pubs with a roaring fire. Fantastic views across the valley too and a very interesting restored tithe barn in the rear. If you want great food in a great pub then drive to The Angel at Hetton.. very, very good indeed. Enjoy your day and I hope the weather stays fine for you!
There's a place in Burnsall, through a courtyard near the bridge, overlooking the river. I can't remember the name! Was nice last week anyway. Also the Black Sheep Brewery aligned pub in Grassington is warm and friendly although the food is basic but very honest. I would say the walk from Grass to Burn is a trek, not a stroll, but extremely nice even on a bad day.

I left Yorkshire nearly 20 years ago and it's a pleasure to see that the good pubs back then are still the good pubs
I dream of heading back to live one day.......

Thanks
The Fountaine Inn looks great, although lacking on the veggie menu (my mum and sister are that way inclined) so might try one of the others if they don't fancy the menu.
Ha! You'll struggle to find much in the way of veggie choices anywhere. It is Yorkshire after all. Having said that, there is/was a veggie restaurant in the middle of Grassington. I think it was called Retreat or something like that. Looks like you might be eating in separate venues The Fountaine Inn looks great, although lacking on the veggie menu (my mum and sister are that way inclined) so might try one of the others if they don't fancy the menu.

Well I just gave them a call and they told me they have several veggie options on the specials menu. A friend of mine told me about the veggie place, but IMO of it doesn't have meat in it it's either a starter or a snack (and not a very good one!). The Fountaine should be okay for the veggies by the sounds of it, so it looks like that's where we'll go seeing as a lot of people here have suggested it! First time I've driven to the dales this year, looking forward to the drive tbh! Although I'm not sure Mable (my puppy) will appreciate it

The Craven Arms at Appletreewick is my local.
Fountaine is good but went off a bit last year for some reason (food wise). Still serve a top pint.
If it was me (and funds allow) I'd just go to The Red Lion at Burnsall (my other local
) have lunch and then nip to the little shop and get a Brymor icecream to have sitting by the Wharfe.
