Just got my renewal through for my Car - last year it was £560 and the year before that about £500, I have 9 years no claims on my own insurance and always company cars before that - I have a clean licence
my no claims was protected, in 2010 after my car was stolen but recovered with no damage ( insurance paid out £860 to change locks on the car)

Latest insurance quote was £3206.21 to stay with the same co I have been with for 9 years

Car is worth about £1400 and has a Thatcham 1 alarm etc

And they wonder why people dont insure there cars ......

Wifs car was stolen at same time and was a total loss - of £11000 - her insurance has gone up 25% but because I have a claim her company wont insure me as a new customer

Help ..............

Its a disgrace isnt it.

To be honest, that renewal quotes strikes me as "We dont really want you on our books anymore"

Try the usual comparison sites but also try some brokers, Sky insurance, Richard Egger, Footman James etc etc

Another vote for specialist places like Sky Insurance. I was doing quotes on cars I have owned before, and for some reason they were double if not triple the prices I used to pay 2 years ago when I had less ncb and less experience. Sky came out top though for reasonable quotes compared to the usual comparison sites etc.

Scandalous isn't it? My renewal with More Than doubled this year dispute being with them for 8 years and having no claims for the entire period. I did the usual phone up to say I was taking my business elsewhere, expecting them to price match, or come close to, but they wouldn't budge - "Sorry to lose your custom after so long, but I'm afraid the renewal price is the best we can offer"

A mate of mine recommended trying http://www.bridleinsurance.co.uk/ who have been absolutely excellent and I've now got 3 policies with them - car insurance, bike insurance and now home insurance too. Yup, ive been that impressed, lol. The car insurance I have with them also includes 5 days track insurance and still cost less than the premium I paid with More Than a year ago.

Well worth a phone call to them to see if they can help.

Tried Brentacre with mine, brilliant, renewal came through 150 cheaper this year.

If you have a specialist car i'd highly recommend giving them a try !

I had the same with More Than last year. I had been paying about £450 and my renewal came in at about £660. After much haggling I got it down to £535 but they weren't willing to match the £405 that Hastings Direct were wanting. More Than by name and More Than by nature. Goodbye!

Been doing a bit of shopping around and went on money supermarket, I put all my details in and the Halifax came back at £1054 - a 200% increase on what I paid last year but still £1700 cheaper than my current insurer suggested - this is all because I had a claim for £800 - I have 9 years protected no claims and a clean licence ! - I said I wanted to protect my no claims with the halifax expecting it to be £75 /80 maybe ....
Oh no .. that takes it to £1944 - so the cost of protecting my no claims was more than my total claim in 2010.

Finally managed to get a protected no claims with Privelige insurance £1100 - snapped there hand off !!

Currently going through all the pain that is searching for the best deal. Changed my new Clio 200 for an old Clio 172 and the new insurance wants £1k!!! Nearly as much as the car is worth. That was Aviva, a quick search has got it down to £600, but still think that's too much. I'll try some suggested above

One insurer quoted me £9000 !!! car is worth £12/13k tops

And they wonder why people dont get insured - this is all because of dodgy insurance claims and ambulance chasers who rip the piss out of the insurance

I would say that there is little point in protecting your no claims, since clearly you get hammered anyway. I stopped doing it years ago after I realised that I could save enough to cover any difference.

Many insurance companies state that they will not cover you again in the event of a claim, so their outrageous quote is not too suprising.

Just got a quote from Brentacre. A little more than the cheapest quote but all mods are covered as long as they don't up the power of the car. If you do something new to the car they don't charge either. Brucey bonus in my eyes
