I've not been in town for donkeys and managed to get the kids looked after tonight so going to take the Mrs out for a meal and a bit of binge drinking.

Where's decent nowadays, don't really care what flavour myself but she is a veggi (it's fish though).

Price is an issue to an extent, don't want a several hundred pound bill or anything.

Cheers.

The most consistantly good quality (and not overpriced) food in Leeds city centre is The Foundry Wine Bar. http://www.thefoundrywinebar.co.uk/ It is located within the Round Foundry on Water Lane. No corporate provision buying and offerings here, all the best available ingredients and just damn good cooking. Always a great atmosphere and service too. Reservations vital though as it gets busy with the TV people and the odd ex '70's heyday Leeds United player.

Restaurant Bar & Grill is worth considering. Consistently good by all accounts but I have only been to the Harrogate one, which was lovely.

Corporate, mass produced food, delivered nationally and then "finished off" in each of dozens of restaurants operated by the same group, i.e. RBG, Piccolino, Zinc and Bank. I'm not knocking the food, it's OK, and the Leeds RBG is an extraordinary site. Smart, but full of knobs sadly. Want good, locally sourced food, cooked and served by people who actually care about what they're doing and "work" their own establishments? The Foundry Wine Bar, The Engine House, Kendell's Bistro (French), Anthony's. The Foundry will cost you no more than RBG, the difference is you can rest assured of the quality provenance of the ingredients used and the skill of the people cooking and delivering it. Choice is a matter of taste (and budget), but we are lucky in Leeds.... we have plenty of choice!

We're off here

http://www.foodbycreate.co.uk/

Father in law bakes bread for them (via Anthonys) and says it's not so bad at all. I'll update later.

Seen that place but not tried it yet. The last few times I've been to the Foundry the food/service has gone down hill.
Bar & grill OK, but I prefer San Carlo. La Grillarde do very good steaks, not sure about veggie stuff.
Has anybody been to the Ellington yet ?

Raymond Blanc, brilliant food, very well presented, and even though he is a "TV Chef" the portions are actually decent. http://www.brasserieblanc.com/locations/leeds.php

Never mind that, can we get a PH discount on bread from Anthonys?

Well, they did very well to nationally deliver and then finish off my tuna steak, requested pink. Then, as it was cold by the time it reached me (that'll be that damn national delivery), they managed to get another in and finished off just perfectly within five mins or so - and didn't charge me for either one.

I wasn't saying it was the best home cooked food you can find, but for a very pleasant atmosphere with a tasty enjoyable meal, our experience at Harrogate was superb. I have been advised that Leeds is just as nice. Maybe not, each to their own, but worth consideration.

I like Sous Le Nez, it's always been satisfactory in my personal experience, little to complain about really. I enjoy how the staff banter about Guy at La Grillade! Always makes me biggrin A much more pleasant environment than the other 'cellar' (it gets a bit more natural light than La Grillade). Richard C (the owner) is one of the oldest, most capable and highly respected restaurant operators in Yorkshire and a true foodie. La Cachette in Elland is one of his (amongst several others) and well worth a visit if in the area.

It was excellent when we went. Meat was excellent quality and so was the buffet selection. My wifes a veggie to but they will do you fish, if they eat fish mind!

They should definitely reduce the price for non meat eaters though, thats what puts us off going again.

Will give it a try in a few weeks then.. My lass is a meat eater so no issues there!

How does it work with them bringing food? Don't you have like a light or something on the table rather than a specific menu?

Aye Fazenda was great, can't fault the service. It's in a great spot too, next to the canal locks, railway arches and modern high rise hotels. Beef of many varieties features heavily, served off the skewer, but you can have a hearty meal without it.

Green card/Red card system.

Green = more meat
Red = I'm digesting said meat
