Well there are 3 possible ways I can go to work, ones 16 mile, another 21, anothers 23

and now no matter which way I go I cannot avoid those f*cking road resurfacing stone chips!

Why why why, doesn't anywhere just do roads properly anymore?

They're doing parts of the road they already did last year already??? So it clearly doesn't last

What happened to good old tarmac frown

Tarmac doesn't chip your paintwork or wind people up so they don't use it anymore.

1) Take pictures (lots of them, of road and car).
2) Find out contractor doing the work from Highways Agency.
3) Sue.

Same over my way but I love it smile

On the stretch of A59 between Harrogate and Skipton there was about 2 miles of it including some twisties down to the bottom of Blubberhouses. It was bloody brilliant in the Stuttgart Snotter - 2nd and 3rd, full throttle, two mile drift wink

Didn't go that way til Friday so missed the worst of it - but if it's anything like the stretch from the M1 to Peckfield roundabout was a few months back I can imagine...

Heres the most annoying bit – all around the whole area between East Leeds and Selby loads of main roads ( A63 etc) have been ruined like htis – Its dangerous when new and destroys your car (particularly dangerous for cyclists and motorbikes), and once worn in its noisy, doesn’t fill in any existing holes, has rubbish resistance to ice/cold weather and all round a bit of a bodge.

But, my street in Kippax – which is residential with nought but houses on it – has just been re-surfaced with the most beautiful, jet black, race-track style proper tarmacadam. And it wasn’t even hugely bad before hand!? WTF indeed.

One theory is – my road is under the control of Local authority – who did it with their own gang (I.E. LCC paid for it, and did it). They don’t really want to re-lay my road for another 20 years or so (I bet it was original before hand, and my house was built in 1980-ish).

The main roads (A63) are presumably controlled by the Highways Agency, Central Government.

They don’t give a st about the end result. Just sub it out to Contractors. And said contractors are rather more interested in keeping themselves in work, hence its maybe best for them if it doesn’t last quite so long...

Cynic, moi?

(FYI if you go onto the LCC website it tells you which bits are currently earmarked for resurfacing/gravelling over/ruining).

That dual carridgeway on the A63 between the A1 and micklefield can fk off

I'm trying to potter about in the first lane at around 40 (and can still hear plenty of stones kicking up frown ) but when people overtake me I just get peppered in stones

so frustrating

The process is called 'Surface Dressing' and is a form of maintenance to seal the carriageway and restore skid resistance. It costs pennies per square metre as opposed to resurfacing, (taking up and relaying a new surface), which costs rather a lot more.

Google Road note 39 if you're interested in learning more about the process.

I hate driving on it when it's new and will avoid those roads like the plague btw. wink

I got caught out by the awful stuff other day in car going to Ponte. And why do idiots insist on driving fast and peppering the car behind. I do the 2mph or lower and get folk on back bumper shouting and balling tts. I like my shiny red car shiny and red thanks not chipped and knackered by nobs driving like tools on Doncaster road thanks

Anyone else noticed that these roads are now self destructing in the cold weather?
