Anyone recommend some place in york to go for a nice lunch with the Mrs.

Also, where is best to park?

No where on the river at the minute! All flooded!

I would go to Delrios ( http://www.delriosrestaurant.com ) - top of Micklegate - park on Micklegate if lucky or there is a car park nearby, next the the city walls.

If you do not fancy Italian, then there is the Living Room ( http://www.thelivingroom.co.uk/location/york )... that it on the bridge looking over the very HIGH water of the Ouse...

Personally, unless you are very familiar with York to drive - I would park and ride... The city centre is a rabbit warren and very congested most of time, particullarly lunch time with us locals trying to get something to eat!!

Best restaurant in York.....but you'll have to book weeks in advance.

Oh, and avoid Jamie Oliver's.......it's not often you have a meal where every course of everyone's meal is bad!

I heartily second this. You will easily find better food elsewhere, but for me this is one of the best places to eat. Go in and you'll see why!

You don't say what sort of meal. For a nice evening meal you will be hard pushed to beat the Blue Bicycle. Probably the best restaurant in York.

I would add not to bother with the living room.

It is a nice enough place, but don't expect anything more than rather expensive pub food.

Mason's is the best choice by a huge margin, after that house of trembling madness is a goood call.

Blue bicycle is good for seafood.

I would also say ate o clock is good for lunch too.

I am sure this gets asked all the time, why York so much?

Thats some collection of beer they have there.

In the end went into some tappas/sandwich bar place. It was nice. Having only ever been to York once before I am now happy I live near it. Its a pain to get parked though.

Second vote for the blue bycicle, very good food. As is Meltons and Meltons Too, with the later being more relaxed and a little easier on the wallet than the former.
