Anyone ever done one?

Where's 'best' to go? best in terms of level of fun smile

It's too early in the year to go on one now it seems, certainly at Forest Pines anyway as the website says the 'forest doors are closed until April'..

I've always fancied a go on one to see what it's like, why not ay smile

Didn't realise that you could get them on 'experiences' but I have used a mate's modified one without the handlebars. His is operated by feet and body movement alone as he uses it for camerawork.

He told me to operate it with my hands in my pockets as the natural instinct would be to wave your arms around. Picked it up really quickly and you look quite nonchalant whizzing along apparently without a care in the world biggrin

That does sound like fun biggrin So what sort of camera work is he doing off the back of a Segway?

It seems a number of venue's offer experiences or rides on these at the moment, I just wondered if anyone had tried any of them..

Forest Pines is looking good at the moment, or Clumber park..

tried them at "Camphill" a corporate/team build type venue. Nice place and people but segways are pretty dull. Rage buggy is much more fun!

They have them at the National Railway Museum in York IIRC - might not be a full-blown "experience" but could be a taster.

We hired some offroad ones in France at a campsite called ty nadan, we had about an hour on them that included a 10 minute "lesson" cost was 28 euros the 4 of us had right larf on them, bit supprised how quick these things are the instructor had us doing jumps going up very steep hills in the nearby woods, I managed to come off and bent the handlebars in the process. Can't see the road ones been much fun.

The user interface - lots of long presses on buttons is very confusing. It's a bit dalek - defeated by kerbs. There is a jet-ski like feel to turning in it's own wheelbase and you can be very precise.

A friend has a couple and they are excellent for nipping down to the shops if you don't have much to buy.

My experience with Segways...

Hopped on, the guy says "OK, now all you have to do is lean forward and it'll go". I lean forward. Fall straight on my face (and knuckles, ouch!). The fecking thing was broken! I would not recommend the experience.

Nice find. I might take my older kids to that as one of the locations is not too far away. Cheers
