Wedding Venues - somewhere nice.
Discussion
Morning guys,
After a decent venue for a wedding. Seen a few places and generally being unimpressed at the quality and amount some venues charge just to stick some white covers on the tables.
Places that look like Phoenix Nights were filmed there charging £7k a pop when you mention the word 'wedding'.
Ideally somewhere with a bit of character or a bit left field. Looking at about 70 guests. I'm not after anywhere flashy - but I expect first rate service.
Ideas welcome...

I got hitched here http://www.thepriestshouse.co.uk/index.html, it's a lovely little place and they sorted everything for us. Couldn't recommend more. However it isn't the biggest.
Not the biggest, not the poshest (is that a word?) but we enjoyed it:

One of the boys in the office got married here at the weekend.
About the right size and left field enough i'd guess?

That's not a bad shout. Do you get both the floors?
The problem with Hazlewood Castle is they need to plant some big effin trees to block off the view of the flat plane and the power stations. Otherwise a nice spot. Very easy to find although nice and secluded but make sure your guests stay there otherwise they'll have some taxi bills to get home!

The Crab and Lobster was originally a very good restaurant, but then I believe they also then bought the accompanying Crab Manor, and converting the Rooms to be an eclectic hotel including a side Conservatory that is licensed to perform weddings. We originally were going to do that but Bridezilla and the coven decided a White Weddng ceremony was required so we married locally and went to the C&L for the reception.
It's become an entire site with the two main buildings (Restaurant/Hotel) connected by a stepped path way with a few Other rooms (with Outdoors hottubs) spread around the grounds - also a Par Three golf 'tee / hole'
Plus sides are that it has a half mile away another decent hotel for spillover guests - there is I think only 12 'rooms' or suites at the C&L, and they can do a Wedding (Service) for up 70 people.
There are great grounds for photos etc etc.
The restaurant, and Hotel is different to the norm with junk / bric a brac character all over it.
They can arrange all or as much as you want
Down sides, the restaurant has two natural rooms. both IIRC seat up to 60 guests. SO: you have to be either be ruthless to cull the breakfast to 60, or take both rooms and have between 90-120 guests.
IF you do this you have to take the entire hotel - so 12 rooms to fill, which is fine to fill, nbut you have to find a date where they do not yet have a single booking for the Restaurant or Hotel.
Oh and they are, or were, strict on the "Music is OFF at midnight" IIRC. local noise restrictions etc.
Can't remember what the costs were but all fairly transparent if I recall.
It was - if I dare say myself and someone mentioned last night, a cracker of a wedding - people migrated off for mass champagne hot tubs etc etc.
Go have a meal there and a wander

Good food there.
I had my wedding there - 65 sit down and 120 in the evening which felt nicely full. The capacity given is 72 sit down and 150 evening but they will stretch if necessary as they can fit more but don't want to make it feel cramped.
Good price too for what you get and their wedding planner is ace.

We also got married here, lovely building, wonderful setting and amazing food! It is only suitable for less than 40 guests at the reception however they were looking to extend into another part of the building so may be able to cater for more now. They also have a superb restored barn that we had the evening do in for about 150 guests. There is plenty of hotel/pub/B&B accommodation in Burnsall or up the road at the Devonshire Arms.It is open as a Restaurant during the week and Sunday lunches so you can sample the food and crucially you can also go back in years to come and eat in the room you were married in (she'll like that :-)
It has a much more relaxed atmosphere than the usual hotel venue, it really is a lovely place......go and have a look...you'll be enchanted!

A friend of mine got married at the Lakeside on Windermere
Quite a posh place in the hotel part(and better out of season - as less tourists)
Obviously great for photos but apparently didn't cost that much for the wedding hire etc
Where they really made their money from us was for the guest rooms which weren't that good
but had a view of the Lake so were charged very expensive (and I wouldn't have stayed if I wasn't Best Man)
May be worth a look as it was the nicest backdrop to get good photos at
Cheers
