Bradford to Bristol, Friday afternoon
Discussion
Anyone do this trip regularly?
I'm going tomorrow, and again in a couple of weeks. Route planners say M62 - M6 - M5 is the way to go, but I always find the M6 a bit grim. M62 - M1 - M42 -M5 is 10 miles longer but strikes me as being easier. What do you think? Destination is just south of Bristol near Pensford.
Many thanks!

I'm going to start with 'no' and 'rather you than me' (on a Friday afternoon.
That said, I do know that route as I did it there and further (Exmouth) back a while ago, are you sure the mileage is so different? I don't recall it being as much as 10 miles.
I did it on the way back with no clutch as the actuator broke as I was setting off and still managed it in the planned time. I went M1 on the way there, M6 on the way back and agree with you, the M6 is grim, particularly the services and their stinking toilets.
I would go M1 everytime, I only managed to get on the M6 because I took notice of Schmatnav and wasn't concentrating. The M62 is to be avoided, especially on Friday as it's slow and positively dangerous.
The M42 isn't a bad piece of road either.
If you take the A650 out of Bradford you can (as you say) go M62, M1. You can also however follow the A650 till it hits the M1 at Carr gate and avoid the M62, not much difference, maybe slightly slower, but more direct.
Good luck!
