Accident today on the A166
Discussion
I passed this sometime, I'd guess, between 16.00 and 16.30.
One police car, two ambulance fast response cars, one ambulance, one un-damaged car and one small lorry all parked on different sides of the road.
The vehicle that they were all there for was in a field on my right (I was coming from the Driffield direction) - I didn't get a good look but it looked like a badly damaged black car.
Obviously, I hope that everyone involved is OK.
But when I got to the A64 at York the radio is saying that the road is closed both ways.
When I went through the policeman wasn't directing the traffic (he was looking a bit bewildered stood at the side of the road on his radio) and the traffic from both directions were just getting on with it.
So why does the road need closing?

Police closed the road after the last accident I was involved with (Stanningely bypass if anybody was stuck in the traffic)In my opinion there was no reason to close the road whatsoever and the police/ambulance services completely over-reacted and caused a whole load of people lots of unnecessary hassle.
Hi just to answer all questions relating this crash.
it was a landrover overtaking a wagon at speed and then rolled into
my field.
the two young lads were ok but one had to be airlifted to hospital.
the reason they shut the road off is for of all the vehicles, police cars, paramedics, witnesses and wagon driver and then a recovery vehicle had to come and drag the car out. this is a very fast road and would have been dangerous to keep open. it is a long straight and they just go like crazy past our house. the council still wont do anything even with all the accidents on there.
hope this helps and thankfully no one was seriously injured

Glad to hear everyone got out & were attended to as quick as possible. It's a wee bit remote up there.it was a landrover overtaking a wagon at speed and then rolled into
