Bus Lane Penalty Charge Notice for 60 sovs just dropped through letter box with a fine picture of me banged to rights in it irked. So just a little heads up for you guys, if you're coming out of Leeds along Kirkstall Rd and planning to stop at the Shell garage at the viaduct (or turn left there), don't cut the corner of the bus lane there to get into the left hand lane.

It seems to be doing good business. An ex-tenant of ours has been caught 3 times in 4 days. Ouch.

I go up Cardigan Rd on my way home so it's either side of a square for me but I needed Shell fuel and that one just happens to be convenient. Turned out to be an expensive fill up.. frown

The camera is just before the left turn for the road next to the Shell station. Sneaky bar stewards. Watch out for the fuzz too. Heavy presence tonight when I left work. A few cars had been stopped. Unmarked 12 plate silver 3 series estate involved too.

Take it motorbikes aren't allowed to use them in Leeds??

Fine example of where it's a bit tight to filter, and lots of ppl change lanes.

(best thing about Swindon was bikes in buslanes!!)

It's a front facing camera so you'd be ok on that one.

Negative, sir. I was supplied with clear photos of both the front and rear of my motor.

I belive its purely a bus and taxi only lane. I have to cut across into the lane to get to the street where I park my car. Hopefully I won't get flagged up by any of the cameras.

So, with reference to the exact spot the OP was ticketed, what are peoples interpretations as to which lane you would use for the shell station.

1 - lane marked left only to proceed up Viaduct Rd, you ignore the left turn of Viaduct Rd, proceed over a section of bus lane/chevrons (albeit short)& turn in to station, you are level with straight ahead lanes by then.

2 - middle lane marked straight ahead, means you don't drive over the bus lane, indicate immediately to turn in so you are crossing the bus lane but would have to be aware of stopping quickly if a bus/taxi is hurtling up your inside.

I see people do both, views please.

I've always done middle lane, then indicate as soon as you pass the lights and turn into the Shell station. Never seen anyone head to the Shell from the left lane myself

Officially I guess you should sit in the nearside straight on lane and then turn in as the left hand lane is for the left turn up Canal Rd. However there was a bit of a queue when I came down so I nipped up a few yards of the bus lane to get in the left turn lane. There isn't actually any bus lane immediately through the lights until after the garage turning anyway so I suppose either "route" is acceptable.

With reference to where I was actually caught, if you look on street view there is a black post some way back from the lights which looks to be the likely culprit, although in the street view pics the bus lane is currently under construction. As I say, I was caught bang to rights so not going to make excuses but I didn't even know there were any bus lane cameras along there. It takes front and rear shots so you bikers won't be immune from it either if utilising it to get to the front of the queue.

Yup the black post pictured below behind the yellow truck is where the camera is attached to

I think there might be one further up the road where the bus lane starts too.

Fair enough. The ones I've seen had 2 photos but both from the front. The second just being a close up of the reg plate.

i use that road virtualy every day and never had a ticket. i usually turn up canal road and always turn into the left lane where the great big arrow shows you to turn. often have a laugh at all those trying to cut in front before that , knowing full well that its just cost them 60 quid to gain one car position.

Anyone know if there is a camera further up towards TGI's or elsewhere on that lane? Occasionally it works out quicker for me to dive into the bus lane to get to where I need to park (just past the Kwik Fit) but I'm reluctant to do so as I don't want to end up with a ticket.

So, where the solid white line ends in the photo, is where the bus lane ends always? or, is it still to be finished by the works crew shown?

I believe that is where it ends, the camera is on the black pole and its situated just before the end of the bus lane. I'll confirm the end of the bus lane later on when I drive home.
