What is this building - Abbey Road Kirkstall

Everyday I sit at the traffic lights on Abbey Road and wonder what this building is.

Its been like that for as long as I've lived in Leeds (30 years). Is it part of the Abbey and does anyone know what it was used for?

I think it used the be some kind of Police outpost, but I doubt that was its original use

Police station, library and urinals apparently - I've wondered for years myself but you prompted me to have a look into it
