I'm looking for the above to supply a fit a new natural wool carpet and underlay.

I've got a general idea that John Lewis will be around £4,000 for approximately 54 square metres of £55/sq m carpet which does seem a tad expensive but it's been a long time since I had to get carpet.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Try Calverts, we've used them in the past and they've always been very helpful.

That is so funny ... I just went down the Stonebow and called in. They were really helpful and had good prices so it's good to know you've had a good experience too.

I've always bought my carpets from Calverts (at Thirsk) and plan to buy from them again when we need replacements.

Calverts were bloody useless when we went looking. Disinterested staff more concerned with chatting to each other and playing with their iPhones. Went with Pocklington Carpets who were excellent.

As far as fitters go I've used Kings both at work and at home: https://www.kingsflooringservices.co.uk/

They can supply as well. They supplied and fitted my wood flooring and were happy to fit carpet I supplied myself.

Lifestyle Flooring UK in Leeds have a fitter in the York area. Maybe worth giving them a try.
