Part-Time jobs for teenage lads. Where are they all?

Posting in Yorkshire for, hopefully, some local suggestions.
Is anyone else finding it tough for their teenage lad to find part-time jobs? My 17 year old has been applying to loads of stuff since he was 16 and barely a sniff. He's had a couple of interviews which mainly resulted in a 'thanks for coming, we've just given the job to someone' or last minute cancellations due to role being filled but not much else. He's pretty much given up on Costa/Starbucks/Pret/Greggs/etc even though they always seem to be looking for people. Many places don't even send a rejection and even volunteer places so he can try and get experience are all full. He's handed out his CV to many small places but that seems to go nowhere too.
All these are minimum wage entry level jobs but they are all asking for experience of x/y/z which is impossible to get if you can't get a foot in the door somewhere first.
Has anyone else with a teenage lad got any suggestions? We're North Leeds but he's applying anywhere within 15-20 miles and has his driving test booked in May so will hopefully be mobile soon.
Friends with sons and daughters have said the daughters seem to have no problem picking up work at cafes/restaurants/shops/bars but their lads are also struggling to find anything.

I see young lads on local Facebook group asking and the ones looking at labouring type stuff seem successful. As do the ones asking themselves and looking well presented without typos. Some local lads went round mowing lawns, washing cars and such like. Not a terrible idea and once one old dear falls the rest follow.
Some of them don’t think to adjust their profile pics to be more suitable for job queries (rude gesture poses etc!).

If nothing comes up try doing some volunteer part time work in a charity shop. My son did this and when he applied for a job in our local pub they said it was the main reason they interviewed him.
They wanted reliable staff and nothing says reliable like someone prepared to work for free.
