My 99T E36 318is has some areas of bubbling paint, some small 'dings' from supermarket trips, and, of course, the plethora of scratches that seem to be standard on BMWs. I'd like the body and paint restoring to perfect condition so I need someone to sort out the dents, sort out the bubbling areas and sort out the scratches. Once this is done I'd like the whole car to have a layer or more of paint added to prevent further bubbling, which I understand is a symptom of BMW applying the paint too thinly to these cars. Once done I want it to look like it did the day it was delivered brand new to the main dealer. What sort of cost am I looking at and where, North of Bradford, is the best place to have it done? This is all hypothetical at the moment - It's not definite that I will have it done - it all depends on the cost.

I had some excellent work done after roof tiles fell on the rear of my S1 Elise a couple of years ago. Moto-Craft on Grangefield Industrial Estate in Pudsey (not Bradford but can't be too far out of your way). Noticed a couple of Ferrari's in there having work done whilst mine was there so they must be fairly well thought of. Can't particularly comment on price as mine was done through my landlord's building insurance but the finish was perfect.

There are 2 garages I can recommend in Bradford

Lunds off Sunbridge Road are very highly recommended especially I have heard on GRP
or KAG now at the top of the M606 are very good
and did an old metallic car of mine when someone ran right down one side
When I sold it garages couldn't even tell it had been repaired and resprayed

Hope this helps

I would estimate the cost of a proper job to be in the region of £2.5k.
Pay less and it probably won't last.

Those bubbly rusty bits are very difficult to treat successfully.
They need taking back to good, solid steel and thoroughly treating with a rust neutraliser. The tricky bits are the ones that are rusty under the paint but you cant see them yet!

Properly? - something comfortably the other side of 5K.

That is a concern of mine. Perhaps the best course of action would be to have the existing problem areas treated individually and any future ones done as and when they occur, rather than doing the ones that are there now and then repainting the whole car only to find that things which had started before the car was repainted don't appear on the surface until afterwards. £2.5k or more would be a lot to spend on a car of this value if the solution were to offer a permanent fix, but indications are that it might not.

Seconded. Edgar Lind is a real gent and the quality of their work is excellent. Often some interesting cars in there to look at as well!

I was very disappointed with some work they did on my Golf a few years ago. They managed to crack the paint when re-fitting the rear valance. I would not recommend them.
