I think I've found Yorkshire's very own 'Eau Rouge'!!!
Discussion
Driving back from Guiseley to Bingley today I decided to take the scenic route to avoid the congestion that seems to be a 24/7 experience around Shipley these days. In Guiseley I turned off Bradford Road and headed off along Hawksworth Lane. This becomes Old Lane and then Goose Lane which I continued along until I reached the end and had to turn left or right. I turned left onto Bingley Road, which then becomes Otley Road, and continued, eventually passing a reservoir on the left and then entering one of the best few metres of road I've ever experienced! The exact spot, shown in this Google Maps image, can be distinguished by the four while posts sticking out of the ground next to the road. On the approach (from the right) you enter a fairly gentle dip and then come out of it and over a crest into a steep drop which makes your stomach head towards your mouth. Just as your stomach's breathing a sigh of relief you hit the bottom of the dip, exactly where the four white posts are, and start to climb an equally steep ascent up the other side which is equally amusing for the stomach! This is the first time I've driven along here so I was taking it steady, but I'll definitely be back to explore the limits of my stomach on this amazing little bit of road!
My goodness...
I can't believe you've never been along that road before! Thats a real 'lets scare the passenger shi^less' road and a great test for a cars composure.
50 limit all the way, obviously, so its not possible to use the dips and crests to flick the tail out on the corners or anything like that.......

aaaah yes. My old haunt and one which some of us (Talkwrench) are still lucky enough to live about 2 minutes from!
Used to be my route to work every day ... caught out one of my mates one dark night though and he rolled his car into the field in the bottom of the dip ...
come to think of it I managed to park a Landrover Defender on its side down there too, but that was in a snow storm. I thought for one fleeting moment that I'd actually stopped the thing, until it started sliding sideways down the hill all of it's own accord. It was an interesting experience. Happy days

Yes, it's quite embarrassing to admit really.Talkwrench said:

I think the limits of that little section of road need to be approached very thoughtfully

Good piece of road
I have lived around here all my life and remember
doing that piece of road at high speed about 25 years ago
in my Mini 1275GT (much modified) with my friend
using a then new technology video player
(consisted of camera and separate recorder)
When we hit the sudden rise he couldn't hold the camera up
and the picture shows just the floor and my friend
shouting out the name of God's son rather loudly.
We still watch the VHS tape of it now and crack up laughing
Cheers
