Each way through Castleford...

What a nightmare.

Anyone managed to end up sat in the middle of the multiple mile long queues at each side?

I had to do three U turns on my way to work. A few people still haven't got in yet!

Eek that sounds nasty.

There were some emergency vehicles on the Westbound last night on my way home, and a big tail back, and another local road closed, and now this in the same spot this morning.

Nasty.

What is it at this time of year? I had to go a different route today, and saw some pretty poor random driving. People just seem to get all frantic at Christmas time, or have no patience to just go with the flow and look forward to a nice break!

Take care out there everyone smile

Cripes, not really a good way to avoid that if you were on the other side of the motorway frown

Poor buggers.

Wonder if it was a UK registered truck then.

The answer to the amount of crashes (from another forum) would apparently be to lower the limit to 60 rolleyes

Not much use when the truck has a limiter already.

So many people are so blinkered it's funny. The limit is 70 today, but if I drive 70mph I am left behind by all but trucks anyway, yet accidents are not that common... and when they do occur I imagine the stat is even less biased towards excessive speed over the speed limit as primary/contributory cause of accident on motorways... ie, sub 7%

Need more Trafpol spotting bad driving practices and general bad driving, be it lorries or car drivers.

I imagine the accident was one which could be totally avoided by a few people just having a little patience and not thinking that the world will end if someone gets a car/lorry length ahead of them.

I am bloody ecstatic that as of last Friday I no longer have to do the daily M62 170 mile round trip!

Rush hour was murder this morning, I got stuck behind a milk float for 300 yards and it took me five and a half minutes to get to work instead of five smile

Back to the 62 though ... the accidents certainly seem to have been getting more and more frequent over the past 6 months.

Thankfully I dont use the M62 so much at the moment, but when I did, it was often blocked and usually for no apparent reason confused

You would sit in a tailback wondering what the hell was going on and when you finally got to the point where it looked like the problem was, it was clear with no sign of an accident at all

Not that I'm suggesting they do it but, the limiter is supposedly for 60mph which is fine on the M62, but the maximum speed is 40mph on A roads, 50mph on dual carriageways. Now as lorries all seem to clatter along all the A roads at 60mph I suppose that makes it ok for me to do 80mph on the same roads. Bet I'd get stopped before the lorries were!!! rage

Hehe, I just do a 4 mile run between two junctions, but can avoid it if I want to using back roads etc...

At this time of year though the M62 does seem to get pretty grotty, glad my time on it is pretty low.

I hate the M62. I feel safer crossing the hills over Woodhead anyday and would prefer to sit in traffic at Tintwistle than endure the idiots on Windy Hill.

My current commute is a vertical one of around 9 feet.

that accident yesterday a lorry somehow got through the central reservation and killed a guy coming the other way. Totally Tragic.

I drive up the m62/a1 link every day and fairly regularly have to dodge irresponsible lorry drivers. The incident yesterday might not have been the lorry drivers fault but driving that stretch every day its easy to see how such things happen.

Ditto here. It reminds me of the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix, but consisting entirely of HGVs. I remember being in my early teens and planning an alternative route to Cornwall (from Bradford) for out annual family holiday because I was so scared by that hateful road. Instead of doing M606-M62-M6(nearly as bad as the M62)-M5-A30 we instead did M606-M62(for a very short distance)-M1-M42-M5-A30... a slightly longer journey but quicker and much less stressful.
