Simple question - I'm going out tomorrow night with a nice lass in Wakefield and looks like I'll have to drive up from Sheffield. It's a 2nd date so I must have done something right on the 1st one, or she's just desperate (like me) biggrin

So, where should I avoid, try out and anywhere good for parking the Vette?

Over to you.......

I have a house just over the road from the one your talking about its called Rinaldi ,we have to say that we don’t go to a few of the so called good one!!!
for reasons i won’t go into but we out at least 4 times a week and go once a twice to this place... the staff and the food are great and value for money is unbelievable at least £3 to £4 cheaper per dish than most of the other with better quality ..its small and cozy and you have to book well in advance or go for an early table if they cant get you in at the normal 7/8 pm busy time

I'm meeting her at 8:30 so guessing that food won't be on the agenda, just a few drinks. Having never been out in Wakefield I'll be in her hands (so to speak) but would like to pipe up with a few names. Certainly beats just shrugging my shoulders and saying "I'm easy".

Starting with an A, that'll be Rinaldi then!

That's the one....and it obviously doesn't begin with A!! It was nice when we went but was always busy and I don't think you could book so a bit of a wait sometimes.

Also The Dam at Newmillerdam is a nice pub yes

8:30 too late for food? It's never too late for food smileThe Cow Shed is nice, lovely steaks and plenty of safe-ish on-street parking right outside. And only a minutes walk to town?

Hope it goes well, wherever you end up smile

I'll throw The Cow Shed into the conversation and see what happens. I'm guessing that when we meet food won't be on the list to begin with. No mucky pun intended, no OXO tower gags allowed, just a few bars and then a rapid drive home down the M1.

Saturday night in Wakey for a second date is far from romantic Vette. I assume all the bars will be jam packed. The place to BE is on Westgate, the place to BE ROMANTIC isn't.

Good bars include Flares, Mustang Sallys etc but all the main ones have changed their names so I'm out of it. For comedy value, try suggesting Cassanovas and ask if they still have the table to table phone system there!! Rumours, Bitz and the Metro bar were the places to be. I think that Bourbon Street and Bleasbys are a thing of the past and the light show in Roof Top Gardens will be sadly missed!

Once you've done with your wooing, there's no better place to be than Thornes Park although I think it would be a bit tight in the Vette. Do you want to borrow my Cortina?

Well it sounds like Wakey isn't the place to be on a Saturday night, good job I'm taking the car. At least we can escape to a night quiet bar somewhere away from the queues and brawls.

Since you have the car, take a short drive to Leeds and go there instead
