I'm doing a long weekend with the in-laws East of Barnsley and wondered if anyone can recommend a good driving route preferably with a good pub lunch destination? We want to escape the in-laws and head out to the moors, I think. The AMV8 has had too much town driving recently and needs to spread its wings. Start point Silkstone. I remember a route some years back into the moors but wouldn't have a clue about road names/numbers. Any suggestions/escape routes would be gratefully received!

I know a great route starting out in Worsbrough, then its all coutry twisties all the way up to Peniston and then choose your direction for good roads!!! Its a better way than the Silkstone way. Thats usually slow moving old people on that road.

Cheers Jonty - don't suppose you know the A/B road number(s) do you so I can spec it out? Also do you know any good pubs/eateries out past Peniston-way?

I'll find out the road numbers and post you a map of one of my little routes I usually take. It also bypasses a big pub that is great for the carvery if you're going on the sunday.

May even see you out if I can scrape some money to get me some more V-power for the 355.

The roads should be ideal for the AM V8 though. They're great in the Ferrari, but always thought they'd be better in something smaller but more torquey!

Went out for a number of blasts - see what you mean about road numbers not being in abundance. Found some fun twisties up by Emley mast and some great open roads - the Penistone Road? Now back in London town wishing I was in God's own driving county.

Ha, yeah they're good aren't they? I dont know how you survive down in London. I visited there the other week and I just couldn't cope without country roads!

Dont go on the Strines road out of Penistone.its in apalling condition.I banged the plate over the oil sump last week. Its a disgrace to the local council.Very lucky to avoid serious damage. Its a shame, beautiful countryside.
