I'm in the process of setting up a new business, and need some advice regarding VAT and Tax. Are you an Accountant or do you have one you would recommend please? I'm not looking for some free advice, I want to engage their services for the next year onwards. I'm based in Leeds, although that shouldn't have to be a major factor, given current technology!

Thanks smile

Evening Jo... wavey
I did have a good accountant based in Glasgow but he retired, then I had another good one who eventually died of a heart attack. Suffice to say I'm looking again so don't recommend any to me or they may not be around long enough to do what you need them for....

Sorry I can't help smile

i can recommend Gardeners just north of york....very good with new business and guiding u during the early stages and what i appreciate most is they have an understanding of small and medium business ....we have had two businesses with them and there advice has been most worthwhile and they have more than covered their costs so to speak....they also handle my VAT and look after the staff/HR funcitons so that i can consentrate on what i do best( i hate admin etc) they also set up my company with Companys House and organised to get a vat number ....ask for Sue( one of the partners) and she is very down to earth and straightforward...say the south african sent you! 01347 878305 and there is no charge for the initial meeting

I've been with Langdales Chart. Accs. in High Bentham, between Settle and Lancaster for over 10 years. Geoff Langdale (director) has lots of experience dealing with SMEs and has been a tax genius for me. T: 015242 63000.

You've probably got enough now... but I use Hanby & Co in Northallerton and Peter Brierley saved me £80k in tax in one fell swoop when I first went to him.

If you are running a relatively small business then finding the use of a retired FD is often a cheap way of getting good general advice and accounts prep., especially if they are up to date with legislation. I'm an accountant by trade so know a thing or two, but when I set up my own business I used a local guy (as described above) to prepare my year end accounts. My experience is larger companies and the person I used has been very good at a reasonable price.

Based on North Leeds,,, PM me if you would like his details.

Thanks
Graham
