'Action for York's roads'
Discussion
That is the massive headline on the York News paper. '£26.2 Million to ease congestion on the outer ring road'
'Brilliant' - i though, finally they are doing something about the worlds longest car park that is York's northern ring road. Perhaps making some sections dual carriageway? (as it should have been from the start)
Nope!
Instead - 2 new park and rides, one on the A59 and one on Wigginton road. Oh yes i can see the congestion simply disappearing overnight!

I live within a quarter mile of the stupid road.
It was considered too costly by the planners to build dual carriageway right the way around York (before all the roundabout upgrades, etc). Local opinion was ignored.
Tossers !
As ever, greed comes first...out of town developments, with the increased traffic put ahead of required infrastructure.

I can't believe that!! I agree it should have been a dual carrigeway from the start. I have a mate who lives in Strensall and it's just a joke getting round that ring road.I may be moving to York in the coming months and I won't be living anywhere north of York City centre...mainly because of that road!
I still cannot believe that they haven't seen the sense in running a park and ride from Clifton Moor to the middle of York that drops off at the hospital. It is disgraceful that employees, visitors and such have to fight over parking spaces without alternatives. Regardless, none of these measures are things that would help congestion around the northern ring road - why can't the council see a small amount of sense in building some wider roads?

I believe it's a Dept. of Transport road.
They all commute into London on the train and don't holiday in Scarborough.
We need dual carriageways all the way from Leeds to Scarboro', and from York to Hull.
How much money is lost by businesses on these time-wasting routes.
Since no government has had the balls to put freight back on the rails,
and insist that factories, distribution depots and hypermarkets are built next to railways, clogged up roads are the inefficient result, putting an extra unproductive hour or two on my working day.
