Nice pubs with rooms in or around the dales?

I’m looking for a little help here. I’m going down to York tomorrow and was thinking of taking the wife along and stopping off over night somewhere in the dales for the night.

I don’t know the area at all so all/any help would be great. What I’m looking for is say a nice little village pub that does nice food and reasonably prices rooms.

Depends where you want to be (Dales or Moors), if you fancy the North Yorkshire Moors (to the North of York) then the Lion at Blakey is a cracker, and on my favourite driving road.

It's been a long time since my last visit, but the Buck Inn in Buckden used to be nice.

The Blue Lion in East Witton is the best Ive ever stayed in!

Also stayed at the Kings Arms Reeth (cheeper) last week and has a good room plus a nice Steak and Guiness pie!
Beer was good (black sheep) + guest ales

Thanks for all the leads guys. Sadly though I had to bash up the road again due to work.

Although the little I did see of the area I’d love to take some time out and have a few days there. I’ve saved the links so I think I’ll be back down there some time soon. The red lions mountain biking tours sound V interesting, I can see a couple of car loads heading in that direction early 09.

Red Lion - seconded.... great place, though not if they have a wedding on at the same time (the service tends to suffer)

give us a shout if you fancy a bit of MTB action in the area, theres a few of us about.

Often combine it with an early Sunday morning 'scenic route' journey to the trailhead aswell.

Cool will do. I'd say we would be doing well to fit it into this year now at this stage. Deffo something we will do in early 2009 though.
