Shed Base in Goole...

Been lurking here for some time. Not really a Petrol-Head as such, Advanced Driving is more my thing.
I've been quoted £350.00 (seems alot) for a 9x9 Shed Base (when I already have the Yorkshire Stone Flags) - Does any PH'er know of someone relieable in the Goole / Howden area who could do such a job for me?
Before you start your ribbing... DIY is NOT, I repeat NOT my thing...

That does seem a lot, Yorkshire stone flags for a shed base? Arn't they worth quite a lot now? Couldn't you have some concrete pads put down or even a base for that sort of money and sell the flags. There must be someone out there who could do that sort of job in a day and charge less than £350.
Seems like a blinkin fortune to me.

My brother and I laid concrete paths around our house when we were 13 or 14 years old...dad being away in the Navy. Hand (shovel) mixed.
Make some shuttering out of old boards and wooden pegs into the shape you want, a layer of hard-core, and 3 or 4 inches of concrete poured in and tamped down.
It's not rocket science.
Oh, and I recommend you hide the flags before they get nicked.

2 men for 4 hours @ £20 / hr = £160.00
Materials, say £65.00
Transport / small tools / plant, say £75.00
Total = £300.00
Have worked on the proviso that some kind of stone sub-base is already down for the sand / cement screed to be laid on. Also assumes the flags are less than 25 kg each and are close by the area to be laid, and don't need to be doubled handled. If the flags are very thick (as alot of old Yorkstone unfortunately is) and over 25kg each then the outfit should under health and safety guidelines use a mechanical lifter, incurring more cost and slowing the process down. If the firm has priced on 3 men then the cost jumps by a further £80.
Don't doubt you could get a few pals together (plus buying the materials from a builder's merchant) to do the job for a fraction of the above of course! But thought would offer some thoughts and show that the price quoted although poss alittle high, is not a million miles away if you elect to use a proper builder

Blimey....no wonder all these 'builders' are running around in new Beemers.
I'd still do it myself...get yourself fit and save on Gym fees.
(Oh, and I've been in construction...tunnelling and plant for over thirty years...including making on site and laying 18 ton concrete slabs on a suspension bridge railtrack bed in Hongkong)
