Be careful in East Yorks chaps, recently I have had the pleasure of seeing the Polices night time gatso on tripod (dunswell road pointing at the transition point from 40-30 Hull end - dirty trick) you can't see it till your on top of it and there weren't any Police vehicles parked anywhere near either so no warning at all.

Also an enterprising young WPC seems to have taken to hiding in a hedgerow on the Brid road (Barmston-Carnaby section) literally in a field just before the layby, again totally invisible till your on top of her (oer) she then pops up with a speed gun.

Interesting to note that both these places are far from accident black spots indeed the only reason to Police them is they are places that the majority of people exceed the speed limit (generally without incident). Of course I wouldn't dream of suggesting that it is a money raising excercise.

Just be careful as there is obviously a new push going on, may be advisable to just not speed at all on main roads for a few weeks.

My father got caught out recently on the A166, there is a nice smooth and straight strech which even has parking places just for scamera vans to hide in because they know it is such a safe bit of road where people speed rolleyes

I just avoid the coast road upto Brid all together now, used to be a fun road when you got a clear run but you just can’t relax at all because of the risk of being caught doing 61 in a 60, nor can you overtake the 40mph brigade without the worry of being nicked.

i can't find a link for it, so not much help at all, but the local paper's publish where the east yorks mobile cameras are going to be and i think one of the radio stations broadcasts the same info.

Must admit I've not seen them and I live just off that stretch of the ring road but thanks for the heads up anyway! smile

Tell me about it I live about 5 mins away and go down it at least 2-3 times a week. Unusual not to see some activity on there.

Also the Driffield to Bainton road. Hornsea to Skipsea will be attracting attention soon I suspect.

The rule is 10% plus 2, so you won't get a ticket unless you are doing 68 in a 60.

That camera is run by the council safety partnership, not the Police.

It is not a rule, you're referring to ACPO guidelines which aren't adhered to by all forces and in any case are not law. You can technically be done for 61 in a 60.

Apparently there is zero tolerance, it's a decision of the police in that area. Having been reading various post in the speed/plod and the law forum, an officer has quoted that you could in theory be done for 30.5 in a 30 limit.
In fact having spoken to a few people recently (after my bogus pull-see Queens Drive Ossett - beware thread) I've got a client with 9 points after doing 33 in a 30 and twice doing 34 in a 30. I also spoke to a guy who's been done by a car on the motorway for doing 73!!.

Wasn't the 10% plus 2 (unwritten) rule to allow for tolerances on their equipment i.e. you could argue a margin of error in a court so they knew it would not be worth their while persuing?

It's got nothing to do with speeding, its the fact that it is very hard to relax and simply enjoy the drive on roads with the potential to have speed traps on them whether you are speeding or not.

Any other theories whilst you're at it Sherlock?

AFAIK, manufacturers have to homologate their vehicles within a degree of accuracy, as per this abstract.....

someone said:
The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, as amended, allows the use of speedometers that meet the requirements of EC Community Directive 75/443(97/39) or ECE Regulation 39. Both the EC Directive and the ECE Regulation lay down accuracy requirements to be applied at the time of vehicle approval for speedometers. These requirements are that the indicated speed must not be more than 10 per cent of the true speed plus 4 km/h. In production, however, a slightly different tolerance of 5 per cent plus 10 km/h is applied. The requirements are also that the indicated speed must never be less than the true speed.

A vehicle meeting these requirements would not be able to travel at a greater speed than that shown on the speedometer and a driver could not, therefore, inadvertently exceed speed restrictions. Her Majesty's Government have no plans to introduce instrument tests.
[soapbox]Anyhoo, speeding statistically has no victims, at all ever (heck, even Andy Green's still alive at the moment), which is unlike dangerous driving, careless driving, driving under the influence, driving without due care ..... it's just that the outcomes of a combination of these things with speeding involved is perceived/promoted as really, really bad. It's almost an inference for (some) people (to) accept that dangerous driving, careless driving, driving under the influence, driving without due care ... are more acceptable to you and I than speeding, when really it's that they're harder to detect and 'clamp down' on. It really is Bull$hit of the highest order IMHO.[/soapbox]

if you are driving properly the speed traps are not a problem
