Commuting Wakefield to Hull - whats it like?

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone does this and what they thought of it - are journey times reliable etc, is it a nightmare or OK?

The company I work for has gone into administration and I'm looking for a new position. I'm interested in one which has just come up in Hull and was wondering how other people cope with 120 miles a day?

I live west of Hull and have travelled to Wakefield occasionaly for meetings. It took me about 50 minutes each way in moderate traffic.

What company in Hull are you looking at?

I was working on a project in Hull for about 5 months so commuted out there from our Castleford office once a week. It's fine - nice quiet journey and took us about 40mins. Main problem is parking in the town centre.

I have a couple of friends live in Thorner north Leeds and work in Hull, your journey would be easier as near to the M62. They reckon on about 50mins.

I'd guess it all depends on times, and how far away it you are from the Motorway at each end - if its close, then it should be relatively straightforward.

traffic is quite light.

There are roadworks on the 63 at the moment but its still quite free flowing.

traffic builds up in a morning as you get near the bridge all the in on the dual carriageway. it usualy only add 10-15 minutes max.

went there twice this week arrived center of hull at approx 9am with not much agro. Wakefield to hull as you know is just a streight line on a decent motorway, you will do it standing on your head.

wacth for speed cameras though one bugger is always parked at the end of the 63 where it goes to a 40

At the busy times, the hold-up seems to be the dual carriageway from the M62 to Hull. Admittedly the last time I did it was 3-4 years ago.

I live in Wakefield and would prefer driving in to Hull rather than driving in to Leeds every day - m62 to hull is normally pretty quiet - gets a little busy on the A63 at Hull but its not a bad journey I dont think

I do the M62 around Wakefield/A1M every day, as do work mates.

Heading out, best to go Normanton by-pass probably, depending where you are in Wakefield, very quiet around 8am ish... onto the M62, then bob along. You are going against the normal flow that way too, and it's generally not really busy at all, and gets quieter once you get east of the A1M while on the M62.

As others have said, it's going the opposing way, towards Leeds, which would be a pita!

where in hull is the job? wakefied to hull is very light traffic on the m62, but from the humber bridge onwards can be murder as the traffic lights along the marina holds everything back. crossing the city in rush hr can be a nightmare.

I used to do just outside Wakefield to Grimsby everyday when we had a site out that way. We set off around 6am so missed most of the traffic, but there was never very much on the M62 on that route anyway! Our trip was 75 miles and took around an hour and ten minutes (at 70mph officer )
