Nice Restaurant for 70th Birthday
Discussion
I'm hoping people can help. I've lived in Wiltshire since the mid 90's so I don't know Yorkshire as well as I did.
Mum is 70 over Easter and I would like to take her somewhere nice for lunch. It needs to be not a million miles from Barnsley. Nouvelle Quisine or anything French wouldn't go down well.
Other than that I think we would be open to any suggestions.

Quite happy to go further afield than the 3 mentioned.
The reason being that all 3 have been mentioned in conversations over the years with my parents and I don't remember the comments as being positive (I put a lot of that down to their changing tastes as they have got old).
I have been to Ardsley House and didn't like it, but I have fond memories as a child of the 3 Acres.

Greenhead House (84 Burncross Road, Sheffield, Chapeltown, S35 1SF)
I love it here, I've taken my nan before and she had a fantastic time. It can be a bit pricey - you could always call to check out menu's etc as I don't think they have a website.
I cannot recommend this place enough though, and not too far away from you.

Try Beatson House at Cawthorne, small, intimate, excellent service and the food is second to none, really nice place in a beautiful Yorkshire village....Yes, believe it or not its only 3 miles outside Barnsley!!!!
A second for Beatson House, my dad lives in Cawthorne and I've been there numerous times and never had a bad meal. The Farmers Boy at Shepley.
Run by the people who gave the Three Acres its excellent reputation.
It is a lovely traditional pub (excellent pint of Black sheep) with the stylish, modern restaurant built onto the side. Food and service are both excellent.
It does get booked up, so plan in advance, though lunchtimes don't seem as busy as evenings.

Ardsley House or Tankersley Manor, both Barnsley. Went for wife's grandad's 90th at Ardsley house and was a nice meal, Sunday lunch type affair. Not eaten at Tankersley Manor, but looked really nice when we were looking for a wedding venue.
Thumbs up for the 3 Acres at Emley. Tankersley Manor not for me, And Ardsley House resembles an old persons care home!Gassing Station | Yorkshire | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
