Evo Triangle / Nurburgring / IOM TT - NORTH YORKSHIRE RING?

..Isle of Man has the TT course / ring (sorry saw the stickers but couldn't find a graphic online)..



...London has, er... the M25 Ring...



..Germany has the Nurburgring (technically the public road)



Isn't it about time we got into the act with the North Yorkshire Ring?

Malton to Whitby to...?

There is one already, more familiarly known as The Northern TT ... and it is a beaut

It involves running south on the B1257 from Stokesley to Helmsley. The north bound leg is courtesy of the Blakey Ridge road from Keldholme up to Castleton or, if you want to make the circuit bigger, the A169 "Flyingdales" road from Pickering up towards Whitby then across the A171.

Unfortunately rumour has it that they have stuck scameras on the first bit of the B1257.

Personally Id do Pickering to Whitby----to Pickering.

However I cannot condone such antics!

Thats uncanny I did this route in the S a few weeks ago, didn't realise it was known just picked it out on the map. Missed out Guisborough though went through Kildale. Fantastic route, Bilsdale is probably the most scenic bit. The Lion inn blakey ridge does a good pint and sandwich as well

Now that's what I'm talking about - also drive those roads regularly and they are top class, the right mix of fast and twisty and nicely surfaced stretches. I have never driven it as a loop though.

Burriana - who knows it as, and why is known as the Northern TT - any race history, any times to target early on Sun mornings - is this biker knowledge?

And given scameras, and traffic on the top end of that route, this is an opportunity to revise it for the good.

Is it viable to cut out the A173 / A171 and still maintain a fast circuit?

They are very well known bike roads hence the TT reference. Never had a go at 2 wheels myself though (self preservation!).

A few of us routinely get up about 5am on a Sunday and blow the cobwebs out over East and North Yorkshire's finest. The B1257 is reserved for the longer Dawn Runs - sort of just under 200 miles in just over 2 hours and back to the cafe for breakfast by 8 o'clock kind of thing.

It is the top bit of the 1257 that they were threatening with cameras. Not sure the current status, though we might find out in a couple of weeks

This cannot be cut out mainly as driving up the twisties up the valley is like being in the mini-Alps. The top A171 is a cracking road too.

At 06.00 we don't usually find traffic a problem ... forget it after 9am though. Even a handful of early riser sunday trippers can spoil a good run.

If i had to say what was a definitive north yorkshire ring, then i would go for, pickering to whitby, then whitby to scarboro, then scarboro to pickering. Mind you, i can see the merits of some of the roads posted on here, and am looking forward to trying them, so thanks

Are you serious??? They are the busiest roads and a total nightmare when ful of tourists/police/caravans. They might be fast, but not very challenging. We already have our own 'TT' for many years and I have enjoyed it on both 2 and 4 wheels.

Might be best not to disclose too much info on the site. Otherwise its going to draw even more unwanted attension and spoil it for use regular users.

Heading North over Blakey Ridge, if you take the Right turn after the pub that cuts back to Rosedale Abbey, heading SE - thats one ofthe best bits. Did that route on Sunday before the Malton meet with Tybo.

I am not talking about the Police initially Its the people who read about these routes from outside the area, decide to 'have ago' and drive/ride beyond their abilities. This either causes accidents, increase in traffic/congestion and ultimately, more police presence.

I have lived in North Yorkshire for all my live and grow up on these roads, both riding motorbikes and driving cars. Over the past few years, there has been a huge increase of 'users' on the best roads after they have been featured in various magazines or websites. A lot of the problems are the born again bikers, but nowadays, there are more 'Sunday drivers'

I am all too familiar with Police awareness on the Helmsley road, so my initial post was not aimed at you. I just don’t think we want our fav roads publishing to increase their usage and traffic

Bloomin good question that - where is there a good cafe / pub open early enough to support dawn raiders, on the Triangle (it's more of a square isn't it?) and serve a good breaky?

Not sure about on the actual circuit itself.

We usually start down in East Yorkshire (equally good roads) and do the full circuit or other route and come back to stop at the bikers' cafe at Fridaythorpe. Drop down the B1248 from Malton/Norton to the roundabout at Fimber, take a right towards Fridaythorpe and it is on the junction as you meet A166.
