Bit of a heads up for anyone who thinks they live in a nice quiet area.
I live in a very quiet area of Cottingham and there was, according to the Police rather a lot of car thefts/break-ins the other night. They went around cottingham doing their thing, then moved on to Skidby and little Weighton. frown
Some little git decided to help themselves to some stuff out of my car, this wouldn't be so bad, but they pretty much wrote off my car in the process.. nice. I now need a new car. Im looking at spending a max of 6-7k, have been looking at mk4 golf tdi...
Any suggestions, of what car to get? Any one getting rid of a well looked after 'normal everyday' car?

Does it not just need a pair of new doors? There's a guy out at Skirlaugh who breaks 306s, bet he could sort you out cheaply.

SSHHH! Keep quiet about that! It might be an excuse to use with the other half: "Oh dear, it appears that they have caused sufficient damage for us to need that new car I mentioned last week darling. I know it isn't ideal right now, but unfortunately it's going to be unavoidable."

Otherwise good luck getting it sorted out, I hope it doesn't leave you stuck for too long.

I almost forgot.

Yeah the Mk4 Golf TDIs are great. I've had pretty much all of them, the 115, 130 and 150bhp versions. I never had any major problems with them and I covered over 130,000 miles in each of them. The 115 and 130 were the better engines in my opinion, as although they're slightly down on power, it's easy to see over 50mpg on a regular basis, whereas the 150 was usually a good 10mpg lower on identical journeys. The interiors are brilliant too, they're much better built than the Mk5 and IMO look for more stylish. For example on the Mk5 there are often sharp edges on the components under the seats, whereas in the Mk4 you can reach under without running the risk of slitting your wrists.

Sorry to hear about that, happens from time to time I recall from when I lived in Beverley. We also had an overnight crime spree in Howden a few years ago too, nothing since.

Anyway, I have an E46 320td Compact that's for sale at the bottom end of your price bracket. It's the 150bhp 6 speed car, very well maintained, Feb 04 reg with 82k (mainly motorway miles) on the clock. It's a brilliant drive, quick and economical too. Been serviced by BMW for the free services for 3 years, then Autologic in Hessle (who I've used for 10 or so years). PM me if you're interested and apologies for the shameless plug.

My brothers car had the exact same thing done (306 HDi 3dr in black too), but in his case, for absolutely nothing (they jumped in a looked under a coat, doh!), and in an otherwise fine area.

Two new doors 2nd hand for £200, in perfect nick, swap over trims and bits.

Easy job to swap too.

Good luck with it.

Try Brotherton Peugeot Spares aswell, top guys, sure they'll be able to find something suitable. Look em up on google.

They are near Fairburn\Castleford\Ferrybridge area.
