I posted this in the travel section, but I just realised I might get a better response here, so...

I'm heading to York on the w/e of the 4th & 5th July to attend the drag racing.

I was originally going to just go for the day on Saturday, but if I can turn this into a weekend away then it might work out in my favour

So... any ideas for somewhere nice to stay in York?

Preferably central as I'd have to be leaving the other half there during at least one day, not crazy expensive but nice would be nice. Parking would be good too. Good food & beer etc.

I've never been to York so don't really know the layout etc.

Thanks

queens hotel on skeldergate is very central and has parking right next to the river, suggested several people stay there, no complaints from them

Thanks for the reply, that looks like a good location but it seems to be fully booked for that Saturday frown

Any other ideas?

Deans court hotel is nice and right slap bang in the centre.

Also there is the minster group of hotels:
St Denys
Minster
Blue Bridge.

They are all in a short walking distance and reasonable prices.

Park Inn looked good but unavailable, Hotel du Vin a bit too pricey.

Looking into the Grange Hotel.

Any opinions on Novotel or Hotel 53 or Best Western Dean Court?

Dean Court is ok, right in centre.

Novotel is sh!t.

Gemini - went to the opening of du vin, not had chance since. Was very mediocre, but didn't think much as was opening. What was the menu like?

Grange hotel is a bit of a walk out of town.

I remember when it used to be a block of grotty bedsits. Some good parties there though. hehe

I would NEVER stay at a York hotel which couldn't guarantee me parking for my car.

I've just seen this.

You were nailing Amy?

10 gentleman points to you sir. I know a couple of people who have worked there and been to a couple of receptions there. She certainly always caught my eye. If this is the right girl.
