U-Pull-It AKA Simpson Salvage.

I went down last week to have a look at what was Simpsons salvage last week, to see what was new and what had changed.
Bit different- As far as getting parts, you now have to pay a pound to enter the yard, but then any bits you get are on a set menu, not as it used to be.. as much as the guy behind the counter thinks is a good price! So far so good, plenty to choose from cheap prices.
The other main difference is this buy a car for a day thing. Basically, u look around find a car in a different yard that you want the bits off, find the price for the car-most have it on the windscreen, and range from £100 to £500 dependent on the car. Then you pay for the car and book a day when you can come and take the car apart. Then go down on that day and take as much off the car as you want. You can take everything but the chassis, as this needs scrapping.
The main thing you notice when walking around looking at the cars is that a very high number of them have nothing wrong with them.. This is because they are cars that have been traded in agianst a new car in the scrapage scheme. Thing is you would not belive what people are trading in!?

And check out this gem, that looked imaculate! £450?!

Why would anyone trade this in for scrap, are people a bit thick?

I Wandered over last weekend and spent a couple of hours in the sun looking for coil packs and failing to remove a mondeo injector pump 
The concept is good, prices better than fleabay (& much better then Doncaster motor spares), staff reasonably help full and there was hardly anyone there, honestly at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon there where only 5 people in the yard and 2 of them where staff.
I had a chat at with the bloke at the pay window (yep no more dragging oily bits into the office !) and he was telling me that it has been quiet and they have cars coming in so fast that they don't hang around in the yard for long so the stock is changing pretty quick.
All in all It's a good concept, nowhere near as much fun as working on a Cortina balanced on top of a mini while fending of the yard's Alsation with a half-shaft and then having a 20 minute argument with the yard owner as the price doubled after he saw the part you just spent two ours taking off but I suppose it's progress

Used Jacko's lately! Quite like the old style yards, HSE is killing them off now unfortunately.

Scrappage? Another bloody Government environment cock up.
Most people just see £2000 however it is the way that the Government reduces its carbon output to meet European targets to prevent hefty fines. Old cars do not have a co2 rating therefore the goverment are unable to keep track. New cars have a rating and therefore the government can prove to a certain extent the output and more importantly they can tax you exactly up to £400 plus. I know of an old couple scrapping an original mini with 22k on the clock. This is the heritage of our automotive history being crushed. Why cant we list a car like a property preventing this scrappage happening.
Just look at that Landy is it really going to be used everyday polluting the atmospere with no thought for our health. No its not it would be hardly used and even then probably by someone working the land to make ends meet.
Anyway rant over I am off to feed my ever so polluting cows!!! No wait on lets not say that next the farmers will be taxed on the amount of cows they have!
As for the salvage yard am I correct in thinking you can take everything apart from the chassis? Does that mean the engine that produces the co2 can be removed?

Talking of engines....yes, of course that's the only bit producing CO2 or any kinds of 'pollutants', so the rest of the vehicle is totally irrelevant.

Been up there today, that Landrover is in fantastic condition. Has to be worth more than £2000 trade in. Looking round the cars it was heartbreaking to see so many good cars ending their purpose prematurely.
On a positive note the parts system with a fixed price menu is very good and the place seems well organised.
