Sous le nez? Great food, service and wine! One of my favourite restaurants in leeds for the price, their deserts are to die for too!
http://www.souslenez.com/
Plenty of good reviews,

Malmaison is good, but might be above the price range. We were with Mal employee's when we went so got discounts/free stuff.
Loch Fyne in the old post office building http://www.lochfyne.com/Restaurants/Locations.aspx
La Grillade (like Sous le Nez, an underground venue) http://www.lagrillade.co.uk/

Well if Sous le nez is out how about?
Italian, we often go to Salvo's in Headingley, the food's very nice for the price and usually a good atmosphere. Would certainly be within budget

How about a Morroccan?? The tagines are very good at Moreno's, good authentice Morrocan cuisine isn't easy to find. Hassan the owner is a top bloke too! It's something really different to the usual eateries and I've always really enjoyed it. Unfortunately it is a little out of the way so may be necessary to take the car!

Luckily it's only 5 mins away from me!

Salvo's is very good but you can't book and may have to wait for a hour or so. Bibi's was good, but is is way over priced and hit an miss from a quality point of view. IMHO, the best Italian in Leeds (for quality of food, service and reasonably priced wine list) is Primo, 29 Wellington Street, Leeds, LS1 4JY. (0113) 244 8443. Cafe Guru is good for a decent Curry. Restaurant Bar and Grill is one of the most popular places at the moment. Anthony's Bistro at the corn exchange is good and reasonably priced. Both Kendells Bistro and La Grillade offer good French style cooking.
Thanks for all the advice guys, some of these i have to visit at some point.
We have had a change of heart and are now instead of city centre going countryside.
We have booked a table at The Rythre Arms Steak House (in rythre) which we have been recommended by a few people

I'm going to bookmark that one, looks like an interesting place for a meaty feast We have had a change of heart and are now instead of city centre going countryside.

We went to the Swan at Aberford last night (first time) and I made the mistake of having fish when the dishes that then arrived at other tables screamed "have the meat you fool".

Are you having the 78oz at The Rythre? I think I'd have to stop eating now to make sure I'm hungry enough on the night

Post your feedback when you get chance.
Back from the meat feast. I would have scored 5/10
This score reflects the overall experiance of the evening
Don't get me wrong the steaks were nice. I had the 25oz Tbone and my wife had the 8oz fillet. The steaks were cooked perfect and the quality ofthe meat was excellent.
Unfortunatly this is where kind words end. And the 5/10 was raised due to the nice steak.
The sides that came with the steak were a choice of chips or roasts. For the 25 quid for the tbone and the 16 quid for the fillet I would have expected hand cut chips etc. But no they are the cheepest of the cheepest fat cut frying chips and the roasts would not have been out of place at a 4.99 carvery.
The veg that came was overcooked and covered in butter, carrots and mushrooms.
The paper table cloths were a classy look once the condensation from the drinks had soaked though and had ripped.
Service was prompt and they gave some advice about the menu.
2 glasses of wine
1 pint bitter
25oz tbone cooked rare
8oz fillet cooked medium rare
sides
sticky toffie pudding
I had vanilla ice cream
Total bill £62.50
if the sides and the setting etc were as good as the steak then this would have been a 8 out of 10.
We informed them at the end of the meal that the steak was great but let down with the sides. They appologised but I don't think they will be changing the format, as the place was packed.

I completely agree with that, it's a very over-rated, over-priced place. This score reflects the overall experiance of the evening

Must try it myself there, never realised it was a steaky place!
