Anyone near Bridlington? Weather report!
Discussion
Supposed to be collecting the oldies tomorrow - coming from Huddersfield to Brid and back again. Just been on the 'phone to Dad who reckons no roads are not gritted and the it's going to be difficult!
Is this just old person phobia? Will be coming in on the A614 from Howden?
I wasn't anticipating any real problems unless we get more snow tonight?
Local knowledge would be appreciated.

Just got back in from driving round the Beverley area to do a few bit of present buying and I have to say its pretty iffy in places even on the main roads into and around town here and yes he's right it does appear like they ran out of grit about 10 minutes after it started snowing. Saying that though its really not that bad but its just the remaining slush is icing over and you can easily find yourself not quite heading in the required direction, its more than doable but do take it very easy because its definitely worse round here than the main roads around the Hull area even, so by the time you get to Brid it could be a bit naughty.
Most of the sideroads in East Yorks are still sheet ice; main roads are now mostly clear but have black ice patches all over the place. Had the back end out a couple of times in a FWD and a 4x4 at 10-15mph. Gritting seems to have ground to a halt.
ETA: It's snowing again near Driffield.

Boxing Day sledging - Garrowby Hill - anyone been up/dowm/stuck on it on Christmas day? - Fancy a go on the field on the left where it was very popular last time it snowed.Would be most helpful to know if it`s possible. Thanks, Julian
A166 was impassable last Fri but is clear now. PLEASE don't do what the idiots do and park in the slip road to the emergency stopping track. I ended up reporting 2 drivers for that this week.I saw the stopping track used earlier a year or so back - I was coming down the hill and realised it was sheet ice... ABS kicked in with only slight application... saw Skoda in mirrors going too fast, flashing his lights for me to move as he could not stop. Luckily I had scrubbed off a lot of speed as he took to the verge at the other side.
Being overtaken by a car going down the verge on the other side of the road was fascinating, as I continued down the hill at about 30mph with the ABS pulsing away in the A4. Skoda shot back across to correct side of the road in between some cars coming up the hill, on to the nearside verge, missed the armco, and then ploughed into the gravel in the track. A lucky escape.
It wasn't safe to stop to check he was OK but I looked across and could see he was in one piece and that he was physically breathing a big sigh of relief.
That section of road needs respect - the number of collisions on there is incredibly high, with a number of fatalities, yet people still drive like tools, even in poor weather.
Have fun in the snow!
