What's it like?

We are lookng to move house this year and have spotted a potentially great looking place in Townville, Castleford but know nothing of the area.

ps. The house has a double garage....just right for building a kit car in/restoring a tired TVR (my main motivation

It's up the road from where I live and I spent many of my formative years enjoying the Cass nightlife...

It's errrm, a little rough around the edges.

I worked there for a while and they are very 'salt of the earth'. I think its like going back 20 years when you engage some of them as they really do have some backward thoughts!

Its not somewhere for a night out. Cas-Vegas, Pontecarlos or Featherly Hills!!! All very dodgy and thats the name the natives gave them.

Oh and thats 2 seconds from Airedale which is a very very rough coucil estate.

Its Alright - a lot of decent people there, lot of rogues as well but no different to anywhere else. go for a few nights out in the pubs see what you think ...

I'm from a kippax (4 miles north of casvegas). Its not bad. I recon its a good location as far as the uk goes. Its in the nice, town on the edge of the sticks type zone.

Castleford people however were all born underground at the coalface and it shows. the place is pretty downtrodden and theres lots of dole scummers. a gang of chavs on every corner and most adults dont have a full compliment of teeth and speak a language (not dialect) only beaten by barnsley, rotherham and dewsbury in the rest of the world thinks "fk it must be rough there" scale.

However, despite it being rough and ready, its not that bad for crime. Think of it as if you were to get involved in a fight outside a pub, you might get slapped about a bit, but you'd never have a knife pulled on you.

Also, its the whitest place on earth, take that as you want, but its 99% white people.


so, basically, in summary, its grim up north, but its not a bad place to be...
