Working there all next week but early starts and late finishes so will have a couple of hours to meself every evening.

Any recommendations as to nice boozers with good ales and anything else that I should see/experience whilst I am up there?

Cheers from a South Londoner that gets the willies when he crosses the river. laugh

Only joking as have just spent the last 2 days up there and found the people very open and friendly.

if you like real ales go to the Devonshire Cat or the Frog And Parrot, if you like wine bars go on Eccelsall Rd. Menzals Wine bar or Nonna's drink

The traditional greeting around these parts is to approach the largest gentleman in the pub and address him thus;

"Now then, Northern Monkey, got any jellied eels"?

2nd'd Devonshire Cat and Frog+Parrot.

If you get the chance, get a map out and drive up Ecclesall Road, (A625, heading East from the Ringroad (the Roundabout is the one with the Waitrose/Peugeot grage to the side of it). Follow this road through the studenty/trendy area, up this hill. After the Lights with the VW garage in front of you, take the right turn that takes you up to Ringinglow Road, which takes you straight up to the Moor out of the city - Burbage Edge and Stanage Edge are only 15 minutes from the City centre up this road.

If you stop in some of the laybys on the right as you head out you get some cracking views of the city.

Being from 'that there london' you might find it a little surprising/interesting that only 15 minutes from the city centre your in the Peak district/Hope Valley which is a place that is very special thumbup

I miss living in Sheffield frown

All the Audi VW sites have gone on one site at Norton near the roundabout

Passed the Devonshire Cat the other night on the way to The Washington, suggested by a local lass.

Moonshine Pale Ale beer

Went to the Shapla Indian Restaurant last night and would have to say that the food was pretty bland but the Cobra and Tiger were welcome.

Last day today then back down to The Smoke.

Shame that I had no time during the days as I would have loved have gone into the surrounding countryside, as I used to come up here when I were a lad.

Cheers for all the suggestions, ta.

A truly classic place! We used to have Friday nights out in town and stumble down there about 3am and they'd still be open. Couldn't give you any idea of what the food tasted like but it was the only place still open at those hours in town.

In an ironic way I've just spent 4 days in London and couldn't wait to get back to Sheffield. £3.40 a pint for Worthingtons, you're having a laugh!
