Busy at the moment looking for a car for No1 son, cant believe how prices have shot up. Theres a lot of high mileage stuff on the market at high prices, he is after an astra diesel 1.9 or a golf diesel, even looked at a diesel Freelander but it had gone.

Definitely. I bought a Passat Sport estate loaded with options in Dec 2008 - paid £9750 and it had done 59K.

Sold in Oct 2009 with 88K+ for £8800. £1K depreciation in 29,000 miles - I doubt I'll see this happen again. I suppose I just bought at the right time.

What's your budget?

I found a similar trend when sourcing a car for my little sister. Ended up getting her a 52plate 1.6 5dr focus. 41k miles, 1 owner, FSH. A real gem. Just needed a bit of fettling to get it up to scratch but I sorted that today with little trouble. That cost £3050 plus 60 quid for new front discs/pads and a gear lever spring.

There are cars out there but you have to be in the right time at the right place.

I'm currently selling a cheap Rover 214 on Ebay, would he be seen dead in one of those?
