Heading ssw at 9.27pm

looked small and close at first, more than a point of light in the sky. Almost looked like a big hot air balloon with it's burner on. At arms lenght maybe half the size of a pea.
But it was fast, so not a hot air balloon, and as it disappeared over 4 mins it faded to look like a star, twinkling and bright, but was way up in the sky, not on to the horizon so it wasn't low. Angle up in sky probably stayed the same.

The oddest thing was how orange it was, like a high pressure sodium lamp. Not bluey or White, but firey orange.

Didn't change direction, or speed I don't think. No noise I could hear. Just glided over and away.

Was seen due east from garforth and left to ssw.

Anyone else see it? Not seen owt like it before. Was either big and high, or low and fast getting high as it went away. No aircraft follow the path it went... Hmmm.

Are we alone haha!

You didn't see anything. And if you did you will forget about it! You dont even want to know what you saw.

Dont mention it again or men dressed in black suits will be round you house.

Ah yes, that looks like it! Big and fast and close, getting higher as it moves away!

So not an unidentified floating object then haha!

Cheers guys, I can sleep safe at night again smile

The fact its Chinese new year this weekend may also have given it away. Saw three lanterns floating around above the M62 near Howden on the way home from Leeds tonight.

You've just described exactly what I saw in Harrogate at about 19:30.

Chinese lantern explanation sounds right.

We set one off last Wednesday in memory of a passed friend.

Think it might have burned out by the weekend though biggrin

We did wonder at the time how many people would look and think "hell fire, they've arrived!".

Crikey! We thought the one we set off at 1 metre tall and 0.8 metres across was big! Might have to make a purchase.

you can see satellites with the naked eye when the light is right, its quite possible thats what it was

strange when you see them though, because there is no sound (obviously) and just a smooth arc across the sky

Iphone users try go sat watch ap for about a quid. It's very interesting. ISS is currently passing every night about 4 times at 90 minute intervals at 27,000kmh and is by far the brightest thing in the sky. When you know where the rest of the sats are they're quite easy to spot.

Definitely a chinese lantern. A couple of years ago at LeMans we saw loads of these things, spent ages trying to work out what the hell they were, it wasnt until we got back that one of the guys found out what they were.

There is a crop circle just off the M62, by Hartshead moor service station this morning.

Might be UFO related!
