Hi folks!

Planning a few days in Yorkshire this summer, looking for a few suggestions of places to stay and things to do!

My dad suggested the Moors, I was thinking the Dales, and I wouldn't mind a day in York although happy to stay in a York B&B on the way back.

So, any suggestions? Looking at either B&Bs or self catering. Basically want some nice MX-5 friendly roads, scenery, nice pubs, some walks, and some sights to see/national trusty type stuff!

Any and all suggestions gratefully received smile

If you search the york forum I think you'll find the roads suggestions, the York b&b , and the Dales
If not pop back
Say where you're looking and to what standard of accomodation and I'm sure we can all help

North Yorkshire is the 'prettiest'. West Yorks has a few things to do.
East Yorks is a dump. South Yorks is pretty dire too - although it has a few nice roads depending what part of the country your coming from???

Search back a few pages, I posted a link to a route around the Moors for some chap who was coming up to Helmsley for a short break. It's a cracking route.

In Derbyshire? SP is too busy 90% of the time. The Moors are quieter IMO - having lived in both areas.

I don't know what planet you're on that makes West Yorkshire ok but East Yorkshire a dump or maybe its just that you like to run with the general know-nothing media conception that East Yorkshire = Hull and Hull = Orchard Park and Bransholme = Little Beruit. There is nothing further from the truth and to be honest I'd still rather be on those estates than a lot of inner cities in West Yorkshire.

South Yorkshire is terrible of course especially where it runs into the Peak District, they should try adding some burnt-out cars and some corner off-licences for the unemployed illegal immigrants to hang around. That would make it so much more attractive!

But seriously, like anywhere Yorkshire as a whole has plenty of places you'd rather not visit, but the county has some truly wonderful scenery and great little hidden jems to seek out throughout the ridings.

Oh my! You really dont know do you, if you stick to the main roads then it's the same as everywhere else. i.e full of caravans, but if actually know about the area, and you obviously dont...

.. Actually, probably better you're so blinkered, that way then we can you away from some of the best kept secrets in the country.

Parts of South yorkshire are terrible, just as some other parts of yorkshire are. Um, but generally speaking NOT the part that runs into the peak district!

Seroiusly, to say that the Peak District is terrible is as retarded a comment as I've heard since George Bush was president!

I spent 3 years at a Uni in East Yorkshire, well a say 'a uni' there is infact only one that based in East Yorkshire I think! Anyway's I like Hull actually, cheap beer and cheaper women. But there isn't anything else in East Yorkshire is there?? did I miss out Goole or Scunny?? Obviously St Tropez doesn't come close to Grimsby on a summers day.

Take bradford out of West Yorkshire (for obvious reasons) and its a great place, we have our problem area's like everywhere else but got a nice mix of things to do.
Patrick Stewart was born in Huddersfield, no one is cooler than him :-)

Scarborough.
45 mins from York.
Good roads to be travelled upon to Whitby,Helmsley,Bridlington,Malton,Driffield etc.
Visit Castle Howard,Duncombe Park.
Sandsend is a cracking little village just north of Whitby.
Lots of photo opportunities about as well.
Try the hole of Horcum. Thornton-le-dale.Bempton cliffs.
Kirkbymoorside from Scarborough, and turn right into the moors.
Some cracking roads to be used.

Where-ever you stay, just have fun.

The Charles Bathurst at Arkengarthdale : www.cbinn.co.uk or the www.theappletree.org which is directly opposite Byland Abbey (English Heritage not National Trust)near Helmsley. Both have good accomodation and food with some great driving roads on the door step, along with English Heritage/National Trust properties close by. Got to admit I prefer the one at Byland Abbey, only 3 bedrooms and some nice personal touches, but hey I'm a girl!! wink

I was hoping Andy that the rest of the forum was a little brighter than "you know who" up there and that everyone else may see the ridiculousness of my statement and therefore its obvious sarcasm! But maybe I need to be more blatent! Lowest form of wit anyway lets face it wink

I love the way that the guy who is handing out the slagging off of East Yorks actually has no idea where East Riding is. Brilliant! No wonder Hull University's reputation is going down the swanee in recent years.
