Grey Truvelo A656 Ridge Road (Kippax)
Discussion
I saw these tonight.
It used to be a 60mph zone national, then downgraded to a 50mph, and I'm sure the cameras have popped up in the last few days. I've been down there a fair few times recently and not noticed them, so assume they are new and I didn't miss em!
So watch out if you are going down there.
The only speed-bump free road into Kippax and now they have grey stealth cameras on the only smooth road
Prepare for zombies watching speedo's at 49mph ramming into people coming out of the junctions with a false sense of security
Why they don't just put small roundabouts down there to force slower speeds where it's important to go slow, which would also help lorries entering the industrial areas, I have no idea.

Oh FFS... Whereabouts? Above or below the crossroads?
They will catch a crap load of people for the first few days, then everyone will just dawdle along from now on, dpesite it actually being quite a well sighted road mostly.
Theres all sorts of markings on the road too from when they put the limit on, mile markings for Police to measure off maybe?

Damn things popping up like weeds - I noticed them too just this week.
They are brand new cameras put in on tuesday. They are north of the crossroads but they are well sign posted.
I'll go get my spraypaint now.....(to do some ...err...spraypainting of...hmmm something)

I'd not mind so much if they were yellow, but they are grey.
Talk about hypocrisy. They would prefer you to drive fast where it is apparently dangerous, than drive slowly
I was followed by a TrafPol down there a few weeks ago and I was doing 55-60mph and they didn't seem fussed (I'd forgotten it was a 50mph, because it's really a 60mph+ national with a few bits you have to look out for (like any road!))...
I guess having cameras lets them kick back and eat donuts instead

I'm not sure about accidents.
The majority of it was national speed limit a year or so ago.
I can't see 50mph making it any better, I've seen more bad overtaking there now since it's been slowed down than ever before.
Better road engineering would seem to be the best solution at the top-end with some small roundabouts, but that is too obvious and expensive obviously

There is one camera looking north (north of the estate) and one looking south (just south of the estate).
It is dangerous on a 50Mph road. IMHO Traffic lights would have been the best solution or roundabouts (as above).
A few years back, there was a serious crash a mile further north when an american drove on the wrong side of the road for 900 yards after getting confused. He killed 3 men.
