Anyone going up next weekend (18th/19th)? I was thinking about it, my friend went a few weeks ago and said he really enjoyed it.

Last meeting of the season, usually guarantees some lairy driving as they have all winter to rebuild, and there's still the championship to be decided. just 0.69 of a point separates the 2 contenders, Henry Moorhouse in his yellow Westfield and Vini Dobson in his immaculate black Mk1 Golf
Next years dates are already up on the website http://www.harewoodhill.com/ please come and join us for a thrilling finale

I'll be there on Saturday, all being well- managed to miss most of them this year, so I'm really looking forward to it. Might even drive up in the westy- pre-Winter desperation is beginning to set in!

Is he still doing that? I've known Vince for over 30 years and he got that car on his 25th birthday which must be 19/20 years ago. Last time I drove that car it was about 6 years ago when he first made it a purely hill climb car and chucked a huge amount of money at the engine. It really do well compared to some much more expensive pieces of kit.

I'll be there trying my damnedest to get below mid 56's, ( 55's the target but highly unlikely unless we have an Indian summer to rival Mumbai! ). Anyhow I'm sure you'll enjoy it but recommend choosing the best weather of the two days.

Not Harewood nor are they your run of the mill contenders but here's a couple of Hillclimbing clips to wet the appetite!

That first clip is inhuman! Sit me in front of the xbox with a cup of tea, and maybe, just maybe I could react that fast rolleyes But control like that driving what is half-way to being an old formula one car at ten tenths up one of the more intimidating hills I've ever come across? Not a chance. That guy is my new hero bow

Edited to say Edmundo, I guess the sort of times you're talking about would put you in a single seater too? Or maybe a Radical or something? Whatever, talking about times like that means you are also my new hero wink

Yeah that clip says it all for me too! I think, (?), it's an ex F1 Arrows V10 in the back of the GWR Predator which makes it sound glorious and different to anything else, ( and home built too al be it by a wizard from what I can tell? )

Matt - Ref my times - I'm keen to improve as we all are but unfortunately find myself in my first season in competition in a class full of carbon bodied, bussa engined guys, some of whom are bloody handy and getting into the 51, 52 second region!. My Jedi has the power to weight ratio but maybe not the chassis or driver to catch them! Here's to trying!

Edmundo, totally off topic... I've just checked your profile to see if you had a photo of your race car and saw that you work in sales for a sports turf company in Leeds.. Tiny chance here, but do you work with a lady called Sarah? Small world if you do (i'm not sarah, but I do know one).

Balders - No I don't work with a Sarah. Any idea who she works for? Small industry so always good to know especially if local.

>>usually guarantees some lairy driving as they have all winter to rebuild<< LoL, that made me chuckle.

I'll be there on Sat and Sun, car No 72.

Last competition of the season, should be a good one.

Spent the whole day there today, had a great time. Saw some good driving, and some awesome cars. Photo's and vids of a few of my favourites..

My favourite, old lotus formula 2 ( I think, maybe 3 )

Aerial Atom. Awsome looking machine, and very fast today. Supercharger sounded awesome!

Jag C type (replica) SO so beautiful; not that quick though but who cares!

Fiat (i've forgotten what) was like nothing else there. Drums all round.

Amazing car, so fast (won best in class i think). Stunning.

One of many seven replicas. There were some very fast ones there including a V8 westfield (AWESOME)

An MG Rally car (from what I overheard the 250hp varient, rather than the 800hp one)

And a few (very poor quality phone camera) videos

MG Rally car

Loads of single seaters, a radical and something else ETA - Edumndo, is that your Jedi, second car on this clip? Hard to tell because of the POOR quality

Atom

mk1 golf, escort cossy turbo, sierra cossy, and a 7 replica

Radical and a single seater

That stunning lotus

Lotus is a 69 F2, Jag is a Toolroom copy from New Zealand, all hand beaten aluminium body, not a replica, Fiat is a Millecento.

Another day tomorrow and the Lotus will be there along with many more Lotii and many other marques.

Oh, and the Golf could well be Harewood champion at the end of the day!!

Not zure if I saw you in person, but I saw the car going round. Very nice. Me one of the guys I was with decided this is something we have got to do. Ol (A guy I was with) spoke to a chap in a silver elise (Ben Loveall IIRC) who gave us some advice, and after some thought decided a westy or caterham would be the easiest way in as it won't require much mods to be competive so long as we drive well. Going to buy a piggy bank tomorrow. hehe

Balders, keep in touch if you decide to go for it, after much scrimping and saving I bought my Westfield a couple of months ago. I think we've got the same sort of aim in mind biggrin The only problem is, a road-going Westy or Caterham with anything over a 1.7 puts you in the same class as Simon Green eek I wondered when he'd push it under a minute.
Going to do the Harewood school next year, have you seen it on their website? There's one in April I think, should be a fun and informative day.
Some good driving yesterday, and not too many offs after practice either. Edmundo, how were your times in the end? I was that busy taking photos I didn't keep track rolleyes I'll put a couple of the better ones on later when they've had a quick run through photoshop.

I will do... It may be a few years away though, just starting a masters degree for the next two years so i'm expecting to be pretty skint. I'm gutted i've found out about this right at the end of the season... looking forward to next year so I can watch some more hillclimbing action! Might even see you competing?

Anyone go up today?

Nice car, very nice! Smooth driving too, from what I saw.

I'm running out of room to put pics up, but if anyone wants any of their car I can email them, no probs. Got a bit of a random selection though, I was teaching my dad to use the camera!

HiMatt/Balders. Times on Saturday were good and set my p.b of 56.22, so half a second quicker than previous. I think with a proper set up inc corner weights/camber/caster etc + fresh rubber on front + revert back to softer brake pads I should be able to get into mid 55's, ( I hope ). Sunday was a different kettle of fish all together. Wet practice on oldish cut slicks then crunch - came to a stop at willow with what sounded like a snapped driveshaft. Turned out to be sheared bolts on rear drive gear/diff assembly which subsequently shagged the teeth. Replaced rear gear with spare larger 48 tooth just in time for second timed runs but obviously with now taller gearing. Was on wets but should have gone slicks but no time at lunch due to fixing breakage. Set a time around 71 something so nothing special but had one eye on taking car home in one piece seeing as last event of year, ( + I seem to struggle generally in the wet vs rest of our class - poss nature of our chassis, poss nature of me? ). Unfortunately seems the diff is now leaking oil so maybe a bit of damage caused with earlier problem so will add to list of winter jobs and hopefully improve further in 2011.

Matt/Balders - PM me if you want any advice on first season etc..I was in same situation in Feb this year and have got a better understanding now of class structure etc..so could maybe help with any queries you might have, ( may not too but I'll help if I can !). Cheers, Ed.
