Evening,
Looking at a contract near Rotherham so after advice as to how bad my commute may or may not be from Halifax. Goolge says 40miles and 60mins. I'm going over the tops through Huddersfield rather than the M62 past Leeds as its a bh in the morning. Picture of route below. Its decent £££ but don't want to be stuck in jams through the winter months as its no fun. All comments welcome.

regards
Adam

Actually, it's not that bad on the section you're travelling on and traffic moves well enough on most days. It gets worst further south and north of this stretch so you're lucky. Fridays can be slow, especially if the A1 is jammed (which it nearly always is). You can expect delays mainly from J35-33 which is normally caused by the two-lane section over the Tinsley viaduct. During rainy Fridays, the congestion is at its worst but even so traffic normally moves at a decent pace (30-40mph). Hope this helpsthumbup

Ditto the slow bit between J35-J33, and once you're on the M18 it's clear upto J1.

If you're working on the industrial estate just off M18 J1 then you might sit waiting to get out some nights (my record is 50 minutes).

You can cut out the busy bit Jct 33-35 and come down Thorpe Hesley Is that Jct 35?), into Rotherham and out on the A630 or A631 towards Donny , up through Ravenfield on the B4368 to Jct 1 of the M18.

Is it Hellaby? You can drop down into Hellaby from Ravenfield (Braithwell Road and down into the Hellaby Ind. est ate)without touching the M18 Jct 1 at Bramley/Hellaby.

Timing would be about right, I travel Meadowhall to Sowerby regularly and use both ways.
Watch for the forest of scameras from Huddersfield up to the roundabout for Flockton, and as has been mentioned Hellaby ind est can be a mare to get out of.

I'd avoid the M1/M18 change if you can - that's more often than not an nightmare at peak times.

Usually it's a breeze to get out and onto the m-way, there's just the odd time when things get backed up with t*@ts blocking the r-bout.
